Chuck, the reason you haven't heard from all those people who viewed your pictures is because they are a JOKE.  It's so absurb it's laughable.  Sonics doesn't even enter into it.  One look and people are aghast with the ultimate garishness and clutter of that room.  Like Eric The Red said, this is what the "Deep End" looks like!  It's not the idea, it's the absurdity of the execution that's causing you to catch so much grief here.

And let's say these eye-gouging tweaks are really effective, who exactly do you think is going to follow your lead?  Who here is going to go out to the sporting goods store and stock up on weights so they can pile them on top of their gear?  Who is going to hang weights off their rack?  Your system has so utterly abandoned asthetics nobody can possibly take it seriously.  It doesn't have HAF much less WAF!  That combined with remarks like...

...aren't gonna win you any friends.  Least of all when such pontification isn't even remotely backed up by spelling and punctuation that one would expect from someone with such lofty education.  It doesn't add up to me.

Your system may well sound like a million bucks, but the interior decorating is so meretricious who would wanna sit in that mess?  

Oh, and I'm surprised you don't know what those funny little pictures are, they're internet avatars!  Your room is filled with paintings of them!

Definitely bring back your pictures, though.  Not enough people have witnessed your unique high fidelity/low taste combination and I'm certain if they were reinstated they would continue to bring much merriment  to thousands the world over.

Let's agree that you didn't get off to a smooth start here, but I think you will find that we are after the same things.  That is a true as can be imagined recreation of the recording event.

You have gone about it in a way that seems a bit eccentric to many of us.

Many have acheived similar results by using acoustic foam, difusers, or products like 8th Nerve.  These tend to run a bit more to our cultures norms in terms of looks.

I think we should all give Chuck a warmer welcome.

Lets cut all the crapola about weights.Any of you with any real guts,go to a sporting goods store and buy 8 ten
pound barbell plates, and strong nylon rope.Hang 20 pounds on each side of the speaker.total 40 pounds on each speaker.The nylon does not scratch the speaker.Next LISTEN.If the sound improves you can all kiss my subwoofer.If it doesnt ,return the weights and
you know where you can put the rope.hang the weights
low on the middle of the speaker.

I did learn some tricks on vibration control--I had heard of the clay for internal damping but not for connectors and plugs--definitely sounds promising.  I will look into it as I get my sound room ready.

Oh, the girl is not my girlfriend--yet.  Got to stay strong if I'm 40 and she's 24...

From my conversation with Chuckie and after knowing what kind of speakers, wires, ICs, etc that he uses and how his entire setup is designed for vibration control I have absolutely no doubt the system sounds incredible.  I just wonder if there is room for two chairs!

OK, I have to admit that I have 135# (45# x 3) in Olympic Barbell plates on top of my SUB

Actually I put my sub on a weight lifting program some time ago and posted it to Harmonic Discord.  He has gotten so strong (How stong is he) He is so strong he breaks old records all the time.  (badda boom)

I put "clay" on the metal supporting framework of my Dahlquist DQ10s in 1974 after I found I could feel them vibrating when playing over 80db.  It worked pretty good then.

Sounds like me. All my girlfriends are in their 30s and I'm 54.  Most of the older ones can't keep up.

Aside from the Weights on the sub, a sandbag full of sand or lead shot is actually better and has more cabinet dampening ability.  That way the metal of the plates doesn't affect the magnetic field of the voice coils.

These were marketed years ago.

Chuckie, there is a magazine titled Audio/Video Interiors--You should get a copy and understand what Nathan is trying to tell you (and myself, too).

I haven't told you, but I use a non-resonant Caribbean hardwood in my audio system.  It's called Moca wood and I think it also grows in Florida.  Works like magic to clear up the sound.  I do have my bag of tricks but I always look for aesthetic solutions...you should see this 24 year old mami...she lifts weights, too!

 The only glimmer I saw was coming off the tacky junk festooning that double wide palace of yours.  You have absolutely no concept of form and function, something that can be seen in nearly every picture of a hifi listening room I've ever seen no matter how unsightly, except yours.  Yours takes the cake for sheer awfulness.  'Sacrificing looks for "sonic performance"!?' Understatement of the year!  Sheesh!  Those images are actually shockingly funny - and you can hardly say that about any pictures of listening rooms either here or elsewhere!

Audio is not for the weak and faint-hearted.

Oh yeah, sitting on your ass and playing recordings really takes guts!

Hey, I don't argue with what you've done to your system; do whatever you want, but I just have to wonder what the hell you expect to teach us 'O Vishnu's Undersecretary of High Fidelity On Earth, after seeing those grotesquely kitschy pictures, which by themselves tell a thousand words.  And why must we call you up to unlock these arcane secrets of audio magic?  This is a public forum!  Just make a post describing your room and what you've done.  Simple.  Either way, we're gonna have a jolly good laugh at it.

Perhaps you could enlighten us on how well your gear performs at such high and probably humid room temperatures?  Speaking of vibration, doesn't all that tacky decorative junk make lots of nasty vibrations of its own?  I personally have found the opposite, that a clean, tidy room sounds the best.  It goes without saying what your own findings have revealed on that particular matter...

That is a vital subject that has not been touched at all in this forum and barely in Audiogon (even though a few Audiogoners are Purist Audio freaks).  I am aware that vibration affects the raw electrical signal and blurrs the sound.  Like we talked, I am working on ways to aesthetically deal with this problem.  Your suggestion about the wood board for my speaker cables was most welcome.  Thanks.

I think in this forum most of us agree that we are listening to recordings of music and that it is only an illusion.  No matter how far we go it will still be an illusion, so we must consciously set the limits on effort and budget.  And yes, aesthetics *do* count.  Just look at my avatar!

You won`t find a greater group of helpful, knowledgeable guys anywhere, this whole thread just sort of snowballed. (w/a little help from you & me too I`m afraid) I came here in March hoping to learn and make some friends and I`ve done that. You are the first to ridicule my speakers but you must understand that my speakers are 10-18 years old, before the days of the "cube". And I know that if I had any exposer to any high end systems, I would be motivated to move upward. Being in the woods of Vermont, this just isn`t possible. BTW, what do you have for speakers? damping is the most important of all.Did you check the
bass traps on audio tweaks.they work and you can make them pretty and save a lot of money.I would  like

Another  thing
I thought of -check all screws holding speakers for not
being tight .Sometime vibration loosens them up and sometimes they start out loose.Even then there con be
air leaks thats why I put the clay.NHT leaked badly.Check the back panel where the binding posts are
tighten the screws holding the panel them if loose they always are.If you use grills,take them off .They are deadly.Listen you will never put them back.
