Passive Chappy,

If you are using CABLE TV Service to provide the signal to your TV and you get hum when connecting your TV to your audio system, that is likely a different problem. You will need to isolate your CABLE TV coax from your system using a "cable isolator" like the Modial Magic Block. They sell these at AudioAdvisor, but I think there are less expensive alternatives from companies like Radio Shack.

Enjoy,

TIC

WTF?!

The price is now up to $84.99! There goes that whole supply and demand thing again! Well, I might just buy one anyway. It still seems like a great bargain.

Enjoy,

I was at Fry's Electronics today.  They want $499 for the Sharp unit.  I tried to get them to deal on a JVC RX-F10.  They're asking $299 and wouldn't budge.  J & R had them for $229 till they ran out of stock.

Eric the Red,

You're not getting kickbacks from Overstock.com are you?

If not, you should be!

Seriously, if it weren't for your post, I would have had no clue about the Sharp. I think Bemopti123 may be right about this one. We'll see.

Yeah, I was upset when the initially raised the price to $79.95. That was $5 more that the original Overstock price. Funny how context plays such a big part of this since the performance is, IMO, worth way more than the $85 that they're now asking. Pissed me off when I missed out on the origial price for my second one and had to pay the additional 5 bucks, though.

Best,
KT

Considering that the original retail of the Sharp was 500.00 and that most people who bought the unit from Overstock bought one for 75.00-85.00, simple math tells me that you saved over 400.00 thanks to my original post. It seems logical to me  (since I saved all of you so much money) that I should reap some kind of small financial reward out of all this. I would be more than satisfied if the 6800+ viewers of this thread would each send me one dollar. That seems like a small price to pay to someone who discovered cheap sonic nirvana in the Sharp and passed it on to his fellow AC audio geeks. This thing was written up in STEREOPHILE, remember? You can all PM me and I'll send you my mailing address :hyper:

Hi,

My Sharp sd-ex111 died in it's first hour of operation. No response anymore except for a clicking sound when attempting to turn the unit on. Resetting does not work either. Can anybody provide me with some insight? Is there hope for the little machine or should I send it back to overstock?

Thanks!

Slurve,

The Sharp does have a sleep timer.

It also has a wake-up timer, too, so  you can wake up to your favorite radio station. It might also start up a CD that you have in the CD player, but I can't remember if it does this.

Both timer functions are a really nice touch.

Best,
KT

This sharp has been a great bedroom system.
Paired with some michura speakers I picked up from Rosconey,
the sound is nice.

Last night I feel asleep to Patricia Barber singing in my ear!!!!

Enjoy...

I have had the Sharp in my office for a couple of weeks hooked up to some Ascend HTM-200's and a cheap Velodyne sub and I couldn't be happier with it.  Well, I guess I do feel the urge to try out some different speakers with it.  I'm thinking maybe NHT SB-1's or Epos ELS-3's.

In case people are still curious, here's the deal with the timer functions:

The Sharp has a sleep countdown timer.

It also has a separate timer that turns the amp on at a specified time, and then turn the amp off at another specified time.

The cool thing about this timer is that it allows you to select the source it starts upon power up (AM/FM radio AND a specific radio station preset, CD from the built-in CD player, or the AUX input), the time of startup (of course), and the volume at which the music is played.

This last feature is cool because if you're listening to loud music at night and only want really quiet playback in the morning, no problem. Also, since you can specify the radio station preset at startup, you can listen to one radio station at night, have the amp turn itself off via the sleep timer, and then wake up to a different station in the morning.

Very cool.

Navigating the timer functions isn't terribly intuitive, however, but if you can figure out a surround sound amp, then you'll be OK.

These are neat features that I haven't run across in a good-sounding amp before.

Best,
KT
