In case people are still curious, here's the deal with the timer functions:
The Sharp has a sleep countdown timer.
It also has a separate timer that turns the amp on at a specified time, and then turn the amp off at another specified time.
The cool thing about this timer is that it allows you to select the source it starts upon power up (AM/FM radio AND a specific radio station preset, CD from the built-in CD player, or the AUX input), the time of startup (of course), and the volume at which the music is played.
This last feature is cool because if you're listening to loud music at night and only want really quiet playback in the morning, no problem. Also, since you can specify the radio station preset at startup, you can listen to one radio station at night, have the amp turn itself off via the sleep timer, and then wake up to a different station in the morning.
Very cool.
Navigating the timer functions isn't terribly intuitive, however, but if you can figure out a surround sound amp, then you'll be OK.
These are neat features that I haven't run across in a good-sounding amp before.
Best,
KT
