What very small, unobtrusive speakers with a very high WAF would you reccommend for this?  It's going to be for a bedroom system.

You may want to look into RAD Micros.  I have a pair and think they are quite good.

I also really like the nOrh 3.0.  I bought the drum version ($150/pair shipped) for my mom and it does very well even in a relatively large bedroom.

Eric,

Thanks for the heads up.  I ordered one for my bedroom set up.  This one piece CD/AM/FM system matches well w/ any small bookshelf speakers.

I bought a similiar Sharp unit for my son's first system matching it up with a pair of Usher 520 bookshelf's.  Anyway his friends think I'm "Da bomb".

Hope you are well.

Any suggestions on a  a low cost, efficient bookshelf speaker to match the Sharp SD-EX111?   The Usher 520's are now ~$400/pr.  I would like to do something below $200/pair w/ >89dB @1W, 1M.

Anyone heard the new 4.5" driver from DIY Cable?  I am thinking about my first DIY speaker.  With a single driver there isn't too much I can screw up here. They are a bit pricey at $69.50 per driver and do not appear very efficient.  I am thinking of going with the 16 ohm version.

Here is some information on the WR125 4.5" drivers:

The WR125S and WR125ST are the first small drivers made utilizing the Adire Audio XBL^2 motor technology. This driver has unheard of performance in a small 4.5" midwoofer. The combination of wide bandwidth, flat BL curve, EXCEEDINGLY low distortion and massive excursion make the WR125S destined to become an instant classic.

The clarity of the midrange is stunning and has a direct relationship to the advanced motor technology used. In addition, the well behaved roll-off outside of it's primary bandwidth makes for a driver easy to design with and applicable for use with low order crossover networks.

We intend to use this driver with a number of upcoming speaker designs among them a small 2-way monitor, 3-way monitor, MTM monitor & with a small center channel speaker kit. This is just the first of many exciting products to come utilizing the advanced XBL^2 motor technology.

Price is based upon single unit. Add two units to the shopping cart for a stereo pair. The WR125S is the 8 ohm unit and it has a round frame. The WR125ST (shown in pictures) is the 16 ohm driver. The WR125ST has truncated frame for easy stacking of drivers for line arrays and MTM configurations. Both are priced the same and you must choose which version you want in the options below.

SPECIFICATIONS
The following is the T/S parameters of four pre-production units.

    * Fs = 68HZ
    * Qes = 0.77
    * Qms = 3.85
    * Qts = 0.64
    * Vas = 5.8L
    * Sd = 67cm^2
    * Xmax = 6mm one-way
    * Re = 7 Ohms
    * Le = 0.32 mH
    * BL = 4.01 N/A
    * Mms = 4.3g
    * Spl = 85.6 @1W, 1M

OPTIONS

    * Choose 8 or 16 ohm version
    * WR125S is the 8 ohm version and has a round frame.
    * WR125ST is the 16 ohm version and has the shown truncated frame.

I think the KEF Coda 70's would be a good match with this Sharp, I had a pair in black.  I think it'd be a great combo.

Well I just plugged mine into my Paradox 3s using my Analysis Plus Oval 9 wire and am impressed as heck with the sonics and fit and finish of this thing. It weighs 11.5 pounds, looks great and had no trouble at all driving my big speakers to really LOUD levels without strain. A little hot on the top end compared to  what I'm used to but c'mon, this thing cost 78 bucks shipped. You've got a PM Carlman :P

Alright just ordered it.  Noticed that it had an optical digital in so I can hook it up to my PC via digital out on the Chaintech AV710.  The spec sheet says sample rate conversion so I'm guessing it will do a PCM to PWM conversion similar to the Sony.  I think that Sharp was the first with PWM amp a long time ago.  In any case can't lose with $75 + $2.95 shipping and no tax!
Since I'll be using this mainly as an amp for my PC, I need a small set of speakers to sit on my desk.  I would like to use the RAD micro's, but from what I've read a set based on the new Adire driver might be better albeit bigger.   I'm also thinking about Mirage Nanosats.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Damn, I just sold all my gear too.  At least I'm simplifying.  Always a great justification!

if yure wanting to use the diy-cable driver w/this amp, i'd not recommend going w/the 16 ohm iteration, unless yure gonna use two drivers per side.  and, even then, i'd recommend the 8 ohm drivers.  iirc, the sharp's amp power is rated into 4 ohms.  double the load & halve the power.  16 ohms would halve it again...

Interesting!  I have a 10" subwoofer that I want to use already.  I don't think i could integrate just the ribbons since the response of the entire system only hits 70hz at the bottom end.  Too bad, otherwise it might work out okay.

Just hold your horses for another week or so.   We have the kit version arriving soon that works in the PE 0.25ft^3 box.    The kit is $199/pr for everything and these are a killer little speaker.

Don't worry about the efficiency.   I'm driving mine to ear splitting levels with our prototype LM4780 based amplifier (50-60W/Ch @ 8 Ohms).

If you wanted more power these little guys bridge for about 120W@ 8 Ohms which is way more than needed for these speakers.
