Arrives home after completing the afternoon shift, walks into kitchen, smiles as two CDs are waiting for Laundrew on the counter - his order from Germany. It is also great to see the attention to detail  that many of the retailers on Discogs use for protecting their shipments - bubble wrapped jewel cases, bubble wrap in the jewel case, plastic sleeves for the digipaks and padded envelopes.

Gothic Sex ~Moonrise~
Gothic Sex ~rarities~

129.2 GB on the iPod already - with only 11.3 GB of storage remaining, it may be time to delete my videos and gain another 8 GB of free space.  :duh:

The Analogue Productions cd's have all been outstanding

You need to contact Tim Cook, Laundrew, and have him do a 3tb iPod for you.

B&M stores: didn't they exist in the dim recesses of the last millennium? Here in the Bay Area, we still miss Tower Records.

What are your thoughts on digital files vis-a-vis physical media?

Best,

Rich

Hi Rich  :D

Wow - 3 TB  :thumb:

It is a little odd that there seems to be just under 10 GB that is not available for storage on my iPod. I like using the iPod as a portable music library list so no "doubles" makes it home with me. As for digital files, I can't really comment on because I have not listened to a music file player as of yet. It would be very interesting to sit in on a high resolution performance. Another consideration is that my favourite music genre will most likely not see the high resolution "light of day" and I have only managed to purchase a few albums ( namely Dead Can Dance) on SACD. It would make much more sense for me to purchase a turn table as the more exotic groups I enjoy had their albums only released on vinyl.

Dropped into our local brick and mortar store to pick up the new Black Sabbath CD. Check out counters are becoming most annoying, "Sir" because you spent X amount of dollars and as a sign of customer appreciation, you can purchase these "special marked down" CDs. What they mean to say is " Sir, no one is buying this junk so we have to employ this 'specials' gimmick to try and get rid of this stuff."

And then a trip to Goodwill for more CDs.

Black Sabbath ~13~
Aerosmith ~Get A Grip~
Robert Palmer ~Heavy Nova~
The Best of Earth, Wind and Fire Vol 2
The grapes of Wrath ~these days~

Laundrew,
I was at HMV downtown Toronto yesterday from 5pm to 7pm. And same thing happened. I told that sweetheart with the deep red lips, that I do not think appreciation really exists  any more and she said yes we do. I think the special price  was $7 if I am not wrong. I told her OK I respect that, but how about if I go back on the floor and pick up any CD with any price let's say $25 and you give me that special discount on that and I pay $18 for that??
She said, I cannot do that.
I can order all those albums on line, I know that and they know that as well, but I like to stop in the store and give them some business, talk to people and see what else is going on and they want to give me something that I have no use or interest for it.

So true about customer appreciation these days PRELUDE. I remember when I was searching for a replacement for the automotive abomination from Hell, some car dealerships were trying to tell me that they were doing a favour for their customers by offering financing terms of up to 8 years. They know that money issues are a concern for a lot of people these days and instead of lowering the vehicles price, they lower the payments and add many more years to the term.

Greetings Rich  :D

I am looking at finishing the suspended ceiling tomorrow in the spare room - this is the room on the other side of mine. Suspended ceilings have definitely come a long way in aesthetics and you have ready access to all the mechanicals if need be - a perfect ceiling for basement installations. Next comes the final sanding in my room and shelf installation. Sometimes there is just not enough time in the span of a day - I consider at times, if we are slowly killing ourselves with the hectic pace we live our live's at.

Placed an order last week to Germany for "Love Like Blood" titles and also CD Universe as they had a few Alice Coopers CDs at a great price. Still "testing the waters" for some vinyl purchases for my rarer music - that first record is going to cost thousands of dollars to listen to  :duh:  Perhaps a visit to the Toronto show will be in order in the fall to see was is out there for turntables.

Laundrew, you might enjoy this brief and amusing chat with Alice Cooper on the Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me radio show:

http://www.npr.org/templates/rundowns/rundown.php?prgId=35&prgDate=05-18-2013

I have a Thorens TD125 Mark II with their TP15 tonearm and a Shure V15III cartridge that I bought new in the seventies. It has the original dustcover and a Thorens maintenance kit with extra belts and grease. I haven't used it in quite awhile, but the discussion here is stimulating me  to either get a phono preamp and hook it up or pass it on to an analog lover. I made the mistake of many others in the eighties, giving away an extensive vinyl collection and replacing the discs with CDs. I still have a few vinyl LPs, including the Mobile Fidelity pressing of Abbey Road, The Rutles, and several discs that never made it to CD.

Sounds like your room is coming along very well. Pics soon?

Best fishes,

Rich
