Shakes head in utter disbelief - the Gothic section at Sonic Boom has been reduced in size  :duh:

Glass Casket ~Desperate Man's Diary~
The Cure ~Blood Flowers~
The Cure ~Wish~
Project Pitchfork ~Existence~

Swamp Terrorists ~Grim-Stroke-Disease~
Enigma ~Love Sensuality Devotion~
The God Machine ~scenes from the second storey~

Slim pickings from yesterday's visit to a favourite CD haunt. An interesting find was Enigma's ~Love Sensuality Devotion~ CD as I thought all of their CDs, this kind of surprised me. A most interesting observation was the size of the vinyl selection. It is only a matter of time before a turntable finds its way into Laundrew's room - I had a rough quote on a Clearaudio Innovation last week -  so many options consider.

Ear and eye candy  :D

Laundrew, you've got to be at the top of the running for the most pleasure per mile from your system. The music never stops! How's the room coming?

  :dance::drums: :guitar: :rock: :dance:

Happy listening,

Rich

Hi Rich  :D

It will be interesting to see at the end of the year how much music I purchased at our local Goodwill store.

The room is proceeding slowly, the mudder kept asking for more cash when the initial agreement was half down at start and the rest due on completion. He was averaging at least a couple hours late when he did show up, work for a couple of hours and then leave without telling me - he was also a no show for 7 appointments  and he complained that the job was taking too long. He is now gone and I will learn how to finish the rest of the room myself. I just had the feeling that if I gave him more cash before the job was done, he would never come back.

Let the dust fly  :D

What's your annual purchase record, Laundrew? Are you building the new room for CD storage?   :)

Hi Rich  :D

Last year I purchased quite a few CDs, but was unsure of the number and I thought that it would be interesting this year to keep track. My annual music purchases started to climb when my new system landed on the shelf. My favourite music genre is not readily available at local stores and when I discovered on-line sites such as Discogs, cdandlp and CD Universe I gained access to the music I enjoyed. My music collection expanded rapidly as instead of making do with a lot of my harder to find music on compilations, I could now purchase specific CDs from all over the world.

What has also inflated my music purchases for this year are my Goodwill CD finds on dollar days. I have purchased a lot of mainstream music from Goodwill this year that I would not have normally purchased at regular prices - i.e. from a music store. Interestingly enough, very few of my Goodwill finds have been "bombs" and enjoy listening to them.

Some of my purchases has been as high as 40-50 Euros for a rare CD and I may have to get into vinyl for the music that was never released on CD format. As I have mention before, my hobby is collecting music and my passion is listening to it. I plan on doing a break down on my purchases at the end of the year and am very please with the growth of my Gothic music collection over the last couple of years.

Your passion is clear, Laundrew:

A friend and I used to haunt the used record stores in San Francisco, searching through a great deal of chaff but occasionally finding a rare treasure. I'm sure that many AudioCircle participants know well the thrill of the chase and the pleasure of discovering new music. When my wife and I are traveling, we'll check out record stores as time permits. I found some wonderful French classical titles at Sikora's in Vancouver and still miss A&B Sound's extensive jazz, rock, and pop collection.

Enjoy the quest,

Rich

The only CDs I am a little disappointed with are Technotronic  ~trip on this~ and Cecilia Bartoli ~Rossini Recital~ but on the other hand, I am pleasantly surprised by and am enjoying Empire Brass ~Fireworks~. I have skimmed over the other selections and have liked what I have heard, Sir Neville Marriner ~Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Requiem~ is a true joy.

Apt comments, Laundrew. Marriner does have a way with Mozart. His performances of chamber works with the Academy of St. Martin's-in-the-Fields are often sublime. Another Requiem worth a listen is the Mackerras, with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, on Linn (CDK 211, a hybrid SACD/CD). It's quite different from larger ensembles.

Cheerio,

Rich

Oh, and you'll melt to Emma Kirkby's singing in Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate (Kirkby; Hogwood: Academy of Ancient Music, 1985; L'Oiseau-Lyre 414 473-2).

On Sunday, Lady Laundrew inquired if I will be placing an order with CD Universe in the near future. "Why?" was my immediate reply, as a slight smile slowly escapes. I would like to order a couple of CDs for my Dad as Lady Laundrew's Dad enjoys vintage/classic country music than can easily be found at CD Universe. Great service, order on Sunday - delivered on Wednesday.

"Well Doll," is my reply, I suppose I can throw together a quick order. So with Lady Laundrew's wish list in hand, I start my CD quest. Wait, what is this I see, can it be? Oh please be still my most fragile, beating heart - special prices on SOPOR AETERNUS & The Ensemble of Shadows CDs! Oh Anna-Varney Cantodea!

I also located on DVD "Who Is Minding The Mint?" A 1960s comedy.

SOPOR AETERNUS & The Ensemble of Shadows ~Like A Corpse Standing In Desperation 3~

SOPOR AETERNUS & The Ensemble of Shadows ~Sanatorium Altrosa~

SOPOR AETERNUS & The Ensemble of Shadows ~Dead Lovers' Sarabande (Face One)~

SOPOR AETERNUS & The Ensemble of Shadows ~Nenia C'Alladhan~

SOPOR AETERNUS & The Ensemble of Shadows ~Dead Lovers' Sarabande Vol. 2

SOPOR AETERNUS & The Ensemble of Shadows ~Todeswunsch - Sous Le Soleil Saturne~

and...

Morgen ~self titled~
