Well 2013 is now officially over and the running tally has also come to an end. The revised numbers are 1140 CDs and 86 records purchased during this tally for a grand total of 1226 music purchases. To simplify the chart, Goodwill, flea market and collection purchases are contained in the "Goodwill" data row while purchases at HMV, Walmart and so on are contained in the "Brick" data row. Vinyl information is not contained in this chart.
Interestingly enough, if you disregard my Goodwill purchases, my music purchases are very close to 2012. The Goodwill purchases enabled a most expedited process of amassing a "mainstream" music library, which would not of been purchased if I was unable to pay $1.00 per CD. I must admit this was a great way to discover "new to me" bands and actually looked forward to CD Tuesdays.
What is very interesting is that the "Brick" purchases are of only 18 CDs during the year and cannot help but consider if these stores are eventually going to become extinct. Granted, my music tastes are firmly embedded in alternative music and cannot be readily purchased at your average Brick and Mortar music store so this may slightly skew this assumption.
So what will 2014 bring with respect to my music collection?
My main focus will be purchasing very rare Gothic Band's CDs and Vinyl while the majority of these purchases will be made in Europe. As this will be very expensive, my 2014 purchases will most likely decline for the New Year. One idea that is also under consideration is to randomly pull one of my Gothic CD compilations off of the shelf and purchase all the albums that contain the songs featured in the compilation. I will also continue building a Psychedelic Rock music library this year - a pleasant "discovery" of this genre by "judging a book by its cover" purchasing. And last but not least, Goodwill will still be a weekly affair.
