In the end it is your setup. So whatever floats your boat.

I understand compromises and center speaker angling.

My TV is positioned lower, so that the center of the screen is level with my eyes.  My center speaker sits just below it, slightly angled upward.

That is why the rack in the center does not work for you. You can raise the L and R speakers so thay are inline with the center channel. :thumb:  problem solved!

Levi, the rack I have there now is just interim. I actually did simply take a hacksaw to my old rack!

Here's the rack i intended to purchase a few weeks back

so I could place the centre channel atop the middle shelf. However, this configuration does not allow me to use the 'floating' shelf appraoch that this line was designed for. So, $2,000 for a rack that you can't use the way it was intended....can't get there yet!

I'm going to wait a month or two before ordering the racks I decided on...in case I change my mind and want to make it work so that the centre channel is below the TV. It can be easily done other ways...but the other ways mean big $$ in cable changes.

So, the centre channel may not go above the TV..but if it does, I won't be too tore up  :D

Here's a pic from about 5 or 6 years ago with the old TV...

So, for now I'm not going to order any racks for a while until I know for sure which path I want to go down :thumb:

Keith,

What is exactly meant by the 'floating' shelf?  Of the two center shelves, do you mean the bottom one is adjustable?  I thought you could just put the center speaker on the top raised center shelf.

Sorry if I'm not grasping this.

The rack I noted above is a Solid Tech Radius.

http://www.solid-tech.net/radius.htm

These racks are designed to have one or more shelves 'floating' or spring-suspended for isolation purposes. So, I thought that the shelves on the 'wings' could be set on springs for the digital gear, etc. Howeevr, in that particular one, only the top centre shelf can be 'isolated'...which is not what I was hoping to do. So, all the gear would be on fixed shelves and the centre channel would be the only thing that could be 'isolated'. Kinda defeats the purposes of the $2,000 sticker price of the rack, for me anyway :D

But I still may go that route.

Did you decide which rack or stand would best suite your needs?

Not yet..I'm just going to wait it out for a while.

The HT-6 would be the one...but without the ability to take advantage of the 'suspension' system, it's not getting much favour  Putting Feet of Silence on it is not a viable option...that would add about $1,200 to the price of the rack, so $3,200 plus shipping and tax...can't get there yet.

So, my interim rack is going to have to cut it for now..I'm in no rush.

Yes, indeed I did

I'm talking to Rob (Robert). I will get something eventually, but I'm in no rush. Still leaning towards 2 Solo 3's at this point.

Hi Keith,
I built a flexi rack and love the adjustability.  The rods are not the most gorgeous things but not too bad.  The wood.  This is a wide rack and 2" butcher block was going to cost me about $1500.  I skimped and got pine  for $100 because of funds.  I figure I can swap out the wood when I win the lotto.
I made the bottom deeper for amps and the rest are 16" deep.  I can adjust to fit any component, component with a butch block or center channel (that is why the center is double wide).  I have too many items on there right now but it looks real nice when there is nothing on the top shelf.

MaxCast...that looks absolutely fabulous :thumb:

I have thought about doing something like that, but ruled it out early on since work is fairly busy and with two kids under 5 years.....finding the time would be hard :D

Maybe I should reconsider though

Yep that and the eq taped all my lps in high school and college till I got a cd player.  The onkyo was my dads.  I bet he played 12 cassettes through it.  I'm trying to get them to epay.

Thanks, I have three kids 3-9yo.  I understand about the time.  The hardest time was the shelf order, clamp and drill.  Then just one coat of stain and about three on the clear with a little rub in between.  If you know someone with a heated barn up there you could probably do it in a weekend with a bunch of flowers.

I build custom cabinets and racks for a living and what do I do?  I go buy a wood and metal rack from one of the audio company's I work for.  Whats that old saying?  The shoe repairman's kids have holes in their shoes?
