I bought these from Andy at HHG Stands www.hhgstands.com, totally custom walnut/bird's eye maple, granite.  Sorry my photos are lousy, but his stands are beautiful in the flesh and very functional.

i love my core audio mod3 racks (http://coreaudiodesigns.com/category/products/component-racks/). they are beautiful and sturdy. granted, they're not cheap (i have three) at $975 plus shipping. arnold is a pleasure to do business with and he may even be willing to give you a discount if you buy more than one rack. also, he's always thrown in free music when making a purchase. when i bought my first two mod3 racks, he threw in two sealed cd's - pink floyd's "ummagumma" and an import of michael jackson's "ben". this time around, when i bought my third mod3, i told him it was for a new turntable and he shipped me a sealed mofi release of average white band's self-titled album.

Awesome racks TomS :thumb:
Thanks much.  I should add that they were very reasonably priced, especially given the craftsmanship.

I have to say I do like the robot look too

Thanks Guys

The 'Rack of Silence' is tempting, but needing two racks I would have three approx. 100lb components and it appears only two heavy duty shelves.

I may look at two 3-shelf radius racks, though...or I may just try to get something inexpensive in the interim.

I had this issue too. The audiophool racks that can support that sort of weight cost in the multiple hundreds/thousands, and I was getting pretty disgruntled until I found one being advertised by an e-bay retailer. Cost me a 100 quid brand new, supports more than 80 pounds per shelf, has glass shelves, isolation and cable mgmt. and looks pretty smart given the money. Only catch is it came flat packed and I had to assemble it.  It's presently supporting two 14Bs, an ARC LS26, a BP26/MPS2 and a BCD1. Freed up the money to invest in some more bryston stuff!

First determine if you have isolation problems, if not buy what looks good and fits the equipment.  There are three sources of vibrations: the component themselves (mostly turntable/CD/HD related), airborne, and via the floor.

If it's component related (which normally presents as a smearing of the sound), try adding mass or clamping it down.

Turn the volume down!  If the floors are "solid" your any differences in racks are solved.  If you're a headbanger get a cabinet not a rack or move the equipment into a closet or another room.

More mass is always good.  As mass goes up the resonant frequency goes down so the energy level needed to excite goes way up.  Ideally the mass of your components would couple together and with the mass of the rack.

Isolation to the floor is good if the floor is "soft" (otherwise undesirable as the mass of the components/rack wouldn't be as well coupled to the floor).

Stiffening rack/cabinet components raises the resonant frequency but also the energy needed to excite.

....and now for something completely different...I think I'm having buyers remorse on my Bryston purchases!

After seeing some of the great pics of the silver gear I almost wish I had not gotten all black components.  Although, it is nice that when I turn down the lights everything disappears except the green lights and the music.....now if only there were some meters!
