The only issue I have with Amarra is that on some CDs it will impose silence (restarts) between tracks instead of a smooth transition. Perhaps it needs a fix to stay active for a second or so after a song.

I think what I just heard is what mercman is referring to above. On some albums, the artist's intent is to have one song blend seamlessly into the next song--zero gap or silence. With Amarra running, there is a short .5 second (?) silence between the songs. Without Amarra there is no silence.  Is this being addressed in upcoming revisions?  I am still running v1.0.1 (3159).

thanks,
ed

Sidenote. Suggestion..... In the "About Amarra" pulldown from the menu bar of the application, it would be great to add the sub-build level (e.g. 3159). To find out what rev I have, I have to do a "Get info" on the application file itself to find the exact version.

This is a real problem with classical music where a movement may be broken up and ruined.  I hope SS can solve this problem.

3162 seems to be running smoothly.

Same issues with 3162.

This morning I was curious about the length of the audio silence gap so I recorded using Audio Hijack Pro on the album I first noticed it: Phoenix's Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. And that is not classical--likely even more disruptive for those albums as mercman pointed out.

Silence between two consecutive CD tracks = approx 1.4 seconds (Amarra 1.0.1(3159)/iTunes 8.2/OS 10.4.11)

Hopefully this will be addressed.

Ed, what version of Amarra are you using? From the looks of the Amarra controller, you might be using a version prior to 3160, which would make it a Beta release. The first public (non-beta) release is 3160 and as Tuckers stated earlier, versions later than 3160 have not been deemed "public releases" by Sonic Studio.

I will see if I can replicate your measurement since I have Audio Hijack Pro too.

Thanks for posting this.

Gary,
Good catch, I have 3160 on my laptop but my G5 was back at 3159 (that is the screenshot above)

Confused about this: following the link from the  July 23, Amarra email, the downloaded zip filename is "Amarra_101_Installer_3160.zip" but when unzipped the installer filename is "Amarra_101_Installer_3159.mpkg"

But the newer version of the application has the new controller and new application icon. but the get info shows 3159 again.  Can someone else verify what the OS "Get info" shows on their 3160 download?

now running 3160 on the G5 and the gap still exists with this later version too. mercman says it even exists in 3162.

cheers,
ed

Gary,

The gap is heard on all versions. 3160 had serious problems so either 3159, 3161, or 3162 should be used.  They all seem to play well save for this problem.  I noticed this problem with the early releases, but I did not articulate it well with Jon at SS.

After confirmation from Sonic Studio support, via email that 3162 should be used,  I installed it.   Gap present but at least it is the latest build.

I downloaded the latest 3162 and when I go to "about Amarra" it says 1.01  Is this the latest?

Go to Amarra's Get Info (highlight Amarra.app in Finder > Action > Get Info) and you'll see the build in the Version field (you can also highlight Amarra.app and press Command-i). I'm running 3162 and that's what it shows using the above procedure (as shown below).

Silverlight, are you just changing the number at the end of the installer download link from Sonic Studio to 3165, 3166, etc? I just want to make sure I'm not missing any email announcements from Sonic Studio.

Of course from what John Hughes has suggested, the most currently 'approved' for human consumption build is I believe 3162. I would assume that anything past that would be a beta version. I have heard that the ALAC version is on the horizon, so perhaps one of these you have now has that feature....

Yes, as usual, just getting good tips from Ted_b  :D   happened to try today, 64 didn't work, so what the heck tried 65 and it worked, so kept going...
And agreed, clearly not official releases, but I'm willing to informally beta test

Thank you for this.  OK.  I did this and I don't have the latest.  I then downloaded 3162 and it says Install Succeeded but when I check above it's still the old (3145) version.  What next?

Are you looking in your Amarra folder in Finder (User > Applications > Amarra), or clicking on an Amarra icon on your desktop that you dragged over from a previous install?

If you check the file in the Amarra folder, it should be the updated version. When installing a new build, your desktop icon will not get updated and will be a previous build (the last time you dragged or copied it from the Amarra folder to your desktop).
