Yep, that's his style.  Walk you down and pound on you.  I've watched the fight again and he was one solid punch away from putting Sergio to sleep in that twelfth round.   The matador won this time but I wouldn't count the kid out.  Hopefully he learned from this fight.

I went from hating Chavez to respecting his heart.  He is a plodder, no doubt.

At some point as he gets older he probably won't be able to make weight/put on 20+ pounds after weigh in.  Roy Jones commented that he was probably a cruiser weight in the ring.  Martinez is a smallish middleweight and essentially exhausted himself beating on Junior.  Chavez did show a lot of heart.  That is about all he showed...  I have to think that as he goes up to super middleweight and maybe eventually light heavy he is going to take some hellacious beatings.

Just saw Martinez/Chavez.  Chavez throws a looping right hand.  That's not good.  Martinez boxed his ears off.  Chavez has room to improve.  He looked underprepared and slow afoot, but he has time.  I can't think that at 37 years of age Martinez has much staying power.

You are right about Chavez's looping punches. He's a tough guy who took a beating from Sergio for 11 rounds before he put Martinez on the deck...albiet briefly.  That showed heart but I think Jr lacks discipline. Martinez is a very athletic guy and is very disciplined. I'm glad he won the fight.  You guys realize Martinez was an overwhelming favorite against Chavez.

I'd love to see Canelo Alvarez fight Martinez next. Alvarez is ready to step up in class and I think he would knock Martinez out. At the very least it would be an entertaining fight.  Canelo is the toughest ginger in the fight game. Did you guys see the replay of his last fight. Brutal body punches!  Tough kid.  That's one of the few fights I'd pay to watch.

At 37 I wonder how Martinez will come back from his injuries.  I was impressed by Canelo but the Martinez who fought Chavez would be a big step up for him.  But I'd like to see it and it is time for Canelo to step up .

I shouldn't be to hard on Chavez, Martinez was a tall order...I'd love to see Chavez against Golovkin.  That would be a war!  Best chin wins...

Canelo may be just about ready; they are only one weight class apart. Martinez says he can make 154 but can he do it and keep moving constantly the way he did against Chavez? He will need the footwork to beat Alvarez too. Especially since Alvarez throws tighter shots than Jr.

I would take Golovkin over Chavez.  He is a bigger puncher and more skilled fighter. I'd take Golovkin over Martinez as well. Golovkin appears to the the guy none of the other guys want to fight.

I'd love to see Golovkin get the winner of Canelo-Martinez.  That would be a great scenario.

Great indeed!  Wish you were the matchmaker!

Golovkin is not very well known in the States so I'm guessing they are going to build him up a bit before feeding him the stars and moneymakers...

He's hungry and will fight anyone.  He's also 30 years old, I believe and has never had a big money fight. Hopefully, he won't do something stupid like go up in weight and fight someone too big and talented like an Andre Ward.  I'd love to see him fight Martinez and then fight Canelo or even James Kirkland.

Kirkland didn't look very good his last time out and was lucky to get the W on a curious DQ of his opponent, Carlos Molina.  I think Kirkland would be a good tune up fight for one of these guys.  He's a tough opponent but I don't think he is a top talent.

I'm not sure there is anybody I would pick against Ward right now. I thought Dawson would give him trouble because of his height and reach, but Ward schooled him.

Both Manny and JMM are talking knockout. They are trying to put lipstick on a pig. It will be a good fight- the others were all "good" fights- there just isn't any reason for it. Been there, done that. A Bradley rematch would be much more significant. And of course everybody knows what the best matchup for Manny would be...

"Lipstick on a pig", you got it, but I suppose it has appeal internationally.  Marquez might get up for it, but what does Manny have to prove.  He'd be better off with a Bradley rematch that Bradley's team could not want.  I have nothin but distain for Arum.

Bradley is bound to have a fight soon, too. One which I expect him to lose. Pacman will fight for the belt following that. That's just my thoughts.  :thumb:

Have fun,

Jerry

The only thing that interests me less than a Pacman - JMM fight is a Bradley vs anyone match. Bradley is a boring and dirty fighter.  I don't think manny has anything to prove against him anyone who watched the fight knows who won.  The only real fight left for Manny is pretty Boy.  I'm quickly losing interest in that fight as well.

Ward is excellent and I thought Dawson would give him a better fight. Dawson rolled over and made it an easy night for Ward.  He needs to strep up and relieve Dawson of his belt.  Not sure anyone would want to watch that fight and I'm certain Dawson wants no part of it. Not sure anyone wants to fight Ward. He's at the top of his game.

I think Ward shut Dawson down.  Guys when they lose often say "I don't know what was wrong I just couldn't get off tonight".  Hello, what went wrong was that the guy in front of you was punching you in the face.

I don't know who can give Ward a good challenge now at or around super middleweight.  I was very high on Lucian Bute for a long time but since that disaster in England... :nono: (BTW Golovkin KOed Bute in the amateurs...)...

I think Manny has more to prove against Marquez than Bradley.  Bradley was soundly beaten by Pac.  Against Marquez all three bouts were questionable.  I thought Manny lost the last one.  But in the end it is about the money...

Floyd who?

Doug Fischer over at The Ring Magazine really likes Golovkin.  He likens his style to JC Chavez senior but with more technique and power.   Ward is only 8 pounds north...  Maybe eventually...

Hot of the press:  Junior tests positive for marijuana.  That explains why he didn't want to fight...

Can't figure out why weed is banned for fighters.  If I was fighting a guy, I would prefer that my opponent is on marijuana.  Jr is an idiot. First a DUI last year and now this.  It explains why he is so lazy and frequently missed training sessions. He did not deserve this fight.  Sergio was well prepared and it showed in the ring.

Plus, he know they were testing for drugs.  Why would someone do something so stupid?

Manny and Marquez were live on ESPN with Skip Bayless and company this morning.  Marquez speaks english pretty well.  Didn't know that.  It was a hoot!  Stephen A. predicts Marquez by decision and that wouldn't surprise me.  Bayless predicts Manny by KO.  Maybe you can catch the replay later today.  Sorry, I don't know when that will be.

I picture Jr. sitting in a room with a black light and lots of black light posters and maybe a lava lamp or two, playing some Dark Side of the Moon or even some Kraftwerk Autobahn on the stereo.  Sure beats having some guy punch you in the face and body for 12 rounds.   Oh wait, he did that as well.

Chavez Sr. was a boozing druggie for a while, maybe they were just having a bonding moment.  I'm not judging, just speculating.  Should have known something was up when he played this song as he walked to the ring...

and later he kicked it old school with this classic...
