Custom made crossover PCB - Made in Vietnam !
« on: 25 Mar 2011, 12:14 pm »
Hi Danny and all Audio Circle members.
This is what I would like to see available from GR Research.

>> Pre-cut sheets of NoRez for all the GR Research kits.
>> 50% reduction on NoRez sheets.
>> Flat packs invoiced and shipped from GR Research.
>> V1 and V2 assembled kits shown on GR Research website.
>> Assembled cross over for all kits available from GR Research.

Yes, I know, I am dreaming in color !

I got my N3TL crossover components assembled on a custom made Printed Circuit Board made in Vietnam especially for me.

Cost of PCB fully assembled ?
32.50 USD/each PCB.

It’s expensive considering that the Vietnamese are paid approximately 6 USD a day or 150 USD a month.

But if you take into account that they have designed and built a custom PCB, then it’s not too expensive.
With a price like that, I will use that little Vietnamese again.

At some point it's no longer DIY if it is all done for you?
I'm pretty sure if you wanted a speaker by Danny and called him up he could tell you in 2 minutes which model and from whom that he would choose.

From what I've seen the companies who work with Danny are fairly priced.

Let's not forget there are guys like Ruben who will make you a set of anything you like. Again very reasonably priced.

For those who think otherwise,,, try doing it yourself!!!  It ain't easy!!!

It's no fun unless there is atleast some thought that this might just blow up when I hook it all up!!!!

Do you think I had that thought?

Guy and I are currently discussing several options for his Audio 13 product offerings.

It'll be pretty cool knowing that there are people in VIETNAM rockin' my enclosures!!! :thumb:

Yes your stuff is so nice!  I love my N3 TL.  One of absolute few choices that produced no second guessing if it was the right choice.  Those people will be rocking! :thumb:

It looks like from the layout of the inductors there is some possibility of crosstalk between them as they are all in the same plane.

You might want to try some of the hints in Danny's XO build thread to minimize inductor interaction.

Of course, I don't know how much that will help, given that Danny as plain as day has a 'sticky' on his forum specifically for Crossover Assembly.

Lie down before you hurt yourself. At least it only cost $30. This picture should be a helpful tip:

And this link should be a review. Here is another helpful link.

Best,

It looks like a pretty large pcb, there may be 20cm from center point to center point.

As long as the inductors we are talking about are the same size.

Based on the size of those Sonicap bypass caps, I'd say those inductors are no more than 1" to 1.5" apart.  I was also curious to see how long it would take before it drew a response.

20cm is just under 8" !

Point to point may not be as pretty, but it's better than using a PCB.

Indeed. And...cheaper than purchasing the PCB if you don't factor in your cost for DIYing. Besides, it's supposed to be fun right?

Hi cOz and all Audio Circle members.
It might not be 100% DIY, but I did participate in the layout, choice of material, etc... For me, that's what I call managing DIY !

For your information, in case you or other Audio Circle don't know already, I bought from Danny one V1 and two V2 and one N3TL driver kit.

Danny's prices are good and his sub-suppliers also, however, please keep in mind that I am on the other side of planet earth and to get stuff here in Vietnam, I have to pay transport and custom duty tax, which makes everything mroe expensive.

That's the reason why I get some stuff made or assembled here in Vietnam.
I have to get those poor little Vietnamese working and busy, otherwise they will steal for a living... (LOL)

In a near futur, I will be doing business with Ruben, because as a Canadian I like to do business with my neibour the American and Ruben prices are good and his enclosures are hawsome...

I have decided to buy everything assembled ready to play music, I don't feel anymore getting my hands dirty...

The DIY is now DIBO (Do it by others) because everything will be for my soon to be business Audio 13.

Hi jtwrace and all Audio Circle members.

Now I recognize jtwrace sense of humour, always teasing me, always making jokes on what I do, that's O.K., many Audio Circle members are too serious, we need some humour here...

I spent many days trying to design and decide what type of logo I will tape on the PCB and I won't go into details about my search for the right clear tape, so many brands, thickness, etc.... (LOL)
The result was worth the effort, don't you think so?

Hi cOz and all Audio Circle members.
One piece of advice:
Don't bring your crossovers on an airplane and say that it might blow up, because it 100% sure you will be put behind bars for some time and therefore, you will enjoy another type of music... (LOL)

Ruben

Hi Ruben and all Audio Circle members.

First time I saw Ruben's work on Audio Circle I fell off my chair.
After getting back on my chair and getting back to my senses, I knew right away that I wanted to do business with Ruben.

At one time, my only concern was:
Does he have time to do work for me?
But now I know that with some patience, he can do nice looking enclosures that will leave the Vietnamese Audiophiles speachless...

When Ruben will be exporting his enclosures to Vietnam,
he will have to change is business name to :
Fallen Enclosures International ! (LOL)
