Hmmm...  this is really wetting my appetite. thanks Poultrygeist for pointing at the Dared. I wonder if the seller is the same guy that sells on ebay, probably. The pics look identical. Now the Lores - who is using the miniLore? Is the sound signature much the same? Specs are similar tho they give up a bit in the bass. I wonder if the smaller driver does the same soundstage thing as big brother.

I have never heard the mini Lore, but I do have a pair of Eric's speakers with an 8" driver (Katz Meow V1). I also own Lores and used to own Omens.
It's hard to compare directly, takes time and energy to swap speakers in and out. But if I had to choose one for soundstage and imaging I'd choose the 8". It could also be due to the location of the tweeter in the Katz. But I prefer the 10" for the bass and energy.
btw: It was when I heard the Katz with my 2A3 SET that I realized that SET plus no crossover is something special.

It does come down to personal preferences. How I go forward I'm not sure yet. My preference is to get "purity and depth" although I know there's no turn key way to get there. There's the room for one. What sounds sublime in one room may not get anywhere near that in another. Still, I'm quite sure those Lores would sound just fine here with a little help upstream. Off topic: is anyone using those ground enhancers on their Tektons? And where are the miniLore owners?

have you tried them?

there is actually more "science" behind them than the purvine-polka dots

Wondering whether anyone else has done the mods to the speakers that Jazzaudio described. Did most of you have the cap upgrade done ?

Mine are totally standard, big, black boxes.  Caps were supposed to be Dayton or some Japanese cap with a 3 letter name that I have already forgotten.  My speakers may have 100 hours on.  Once or twice earlier I thought I heard some congestion or blurring of the midrange and I was looking into the slight damping and felt approach.  But, honestly, whatever I heard (or thought I heard) previously seems to be gone.  It might have been the recordings I was listening to.  It might have been excessive ear wax.  Who knows?  The other evening I played "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road".  It sounded so good that I was amazed.  Maybe some day I'll caulk and damp a bit, but for now, I'm just listening.

thanks yeldarb, Car Wheels is one great record. You have the full size Lore I take it. No doubt these are very satisfying speakers as is. Jazz was pretty stoked by the benefits of his tweaks. If I had Lores now I'd probably be tempted to try what he did. As long as its reversible; the price sure is right.

Yes, full size.  Let me add that I have Madisound BK16 in another room.  I deadened the Fostex frames with Mortite and felted the back of the magnets, and it did make a difference in clarity.  But I could see where you might overdo cabinet "damping" pretty easily.  Thought about adding one Deflex panel behind the driver on the Lore, but I will wait.

I asked a question on the Tekton blog more then a month ago only to see it deleted. When i asked what's going on on the blog i received mail within minutes! Customer care could improve there in my impression. Lately i have been browsing anything about GR research speakers and they peaked my intrest, especially the V1, V2, Super-V open baffle designs. Not really single driver i think but the comments about these speakers could not leave me cold and made me think wich way to go if i would choose a speaker, Tekton or the lather?? Anyone with experience?? Gr Research does seem to have great communication and customer care judging from the forums.

The Lores have heavy mdf cabinets.  They don't need mods to dampen them.

I think Eric pretty much runs the show at Tekton, it's a small operation. I don't think he has time to monitor the blog or forum closely, but I have had good response from him via eMail.
I haven't heard the GR speakers, but I own Tekton Katz Meow V1 and Tekton Lores and like them both a lot. Great speakers for the money.
Did you buy new speakers?

I did have contact through email with Eric, he was very friendly and answered my questions.

I didn't buy new speakers but if i would buy Tekton it propably would be the Lores. The reason i didn't buy new speakers is that i will be moving house soon. The "new" speakers would be for a 2nd listening area if i eventually come around to do this. My primary listening room has Hyperion 938 speakers and i don't see me selling those in the near future unless a small miracle would happen... like a speaker i like even more and that cost less then those Hyperions. But i think it would just be a case of different presentation and not a case of bad vs good sound. I'm also in a dilemma to choose between Tekton Lores or Hoyt Bedford speakers or a bigger open baffle design like the GR research V1, V2 or Super-V if budget allows. The last speakers mentioned are not exactly single drivers but those really caught my intrest in the GR research forum here at Audiocircle, and i think they would need a big room to. I do not have the ability to audition one of those brands where i live. But i hope i can make the right decision at some point.

Just an FYI to those interested, Tekton will have a new speaker out tomorrow for $850 called the Oriel.
10" driver + tweeter, looks like the lore cabinet with different drivers, similar specs, lower price.

Thanks for the link.

The review mentions the M-Lore as being less than totally detailed.  I've heard the same from other Eminence extended range drivers (Hawthorne Silver Iris 10 and 15 inch drivers).

But I'll take musical over detailed any day.

They seem like a great replacement for my old living room speakers (2nd system - casual listening) whenever they finally die (I like the sound but got them cheap and cheaply made, so not point in a rebuild).  The extra efficiency will come in handy as the living room in this house is part of an open house design and has to load 10,000 cu. ft.  (I know they say to use the Lore, but this is for very casual/occasional listening.)

I agree the Eminence based drivers although musical tend to lack detail. My Omens were musical but I preferred the detail of the Tekton/Fostex 4.5 when augmented with open baffle bass drivers as pictured on page 4 of this thread. I recently sold the Zu Omens and have moved on to OB builds.
