Scott,
I'm ashamed to admit I have that album.
Great production on it, actually.  A lot better than his album from the 70's, or that one that Spock (Nimoy) did.  Joke albums, right?
Put me down as a total fan of Richard Thompson.  And I would definitely pay to see Steve Miller.  Been thinking about him recently, and remember a tiny news article on him from the 70's, where he played a blues set by himself, and the rock crowd was a bit stunned.

I'd love to see Steve Miller do a whole show of blues.  That guy played with some of the best early on.

Art Garfunkel.
Went to a concert of his in Wendover, NV.  The angelic voice is GONE!  He uses an excellent band to cover it up.
But I heard no one coming out afterwards having anything positive to say.

He looks like my Jewish proctologist.

This thread is one of the most negative, nasty things I've seen posted on an internet board.  Most of you sound like a bunch of snotty, little girls.  If you don't like the music, let it go at that.  Making fun of people because they've gotten old is not a classy thing to get into.  If ever something needed to be binned, this is it.
Hi :  With respect, I think that if you read the OP, you'll see that this topic isn't about taking a poke at artists because they, as Buddy Guy sings,"done got old..." Buddy Guy was born in 1936 and he's still rippin' it up. An artist can age and retain artistic relevance. I would add that "younger" artists can ideally know when they've taken a project as far as it can go without lapsing into self-parody or a cheezy cash-in on the nostalgic yearnings and memories of fans who have stuck by them but really just want to hear the "good stuff". You can site Robert Plant's steadfast refusal to cash in on a Led Zep "reunion" as an example of a mature artist who would rather continue to evolve and grow artistically. Want a younger example? Jack White pulled the pin on the hugely-popular White Stripes today. I think he and Meg realized that the concept had been taken as far as it could go so they walked away. Probably could have squeezed a few more $$$ out of it but that isn't the prime motivator for true artists. Can you say that about say...The Eagles ( they were pulling Frey and Henley off each other backstage when they played in my city on their most-recent tour. Sometimes even the money's not enough...) ? How about the recent cash-grab by the Police ? No new music since "Synchronicity" in 1983. C'mon. Anybody see David Bowie out trashing his considerable artistic legacy doing some cringe-inducing tour where he plays Ziggy Stardust or Station To Station all the way through ( I'm looking at you, Pixies ) ? No, because he is an artist first and foremost. This isn't about getting old, it's about jumping the shark and not caring because you love the money and/or the adulation too much. Oh, and about this thread being one of the most negative, nasty things you've seen on an internet board, an observation: your post probably has as much or more edge to it as anything anyone else has posted here but hey, you're entitled to your view... just like everybody else.

+1!

The irony is, based on our musical tastes, many of us are roughly the same age as the artists we make fun of.  I used to lift weights and race bicycles, but if I put on my old racing shorts my picture would probably show up in "More People from WalMart".  That part of my life is behind me, and I am OK with that.  I wish more of us would do away with nasty comb-overs, or trying to prove you still "have it", and I think that is the point of this thread. :nono:

End of rant.  Whom do we skewer next?      :icon_twisted:

Ageism, no matter how you dress it up, is simply wrong and distasteful.  It is also illegal.  This topic is beneath all of us.

This thread is not about ageism. It's about knowing when to quit. I certainly don't agree with all the picks named here, but it's a harmless topic.
Ricky Gervais's hilarious (IMHO) bit during the Golden Globes opening monologue is quite appropriate here:
"Would you like tickets to see Cher?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because its not 1975."

I think the term is "hubris", not ageism.  We celebrate the wisdom of age and experience.  I think the old adage is "Old age and cunning will overcome youth and skill any day", so is that ageism against the young?   :icon_twisted:

EDIT:  And it is NOT illegal to make fun of someone because of age, stupidity, IQ, or anything else, unless it has to do with housing, employment, benefits, etc.

Precisely ! And we rail against those who may not have always but certainly do now suck...
So, in response to your earlier inquiry as to who do we skewer next, I would suggest someone young and perky...and apparently incapable of putting out a decent follow-up to their second album ( but God help us, they insist on continuing to try...).

I present for your consideration :  Weezer ! :eyebrows:

How 'bout the Kardashian sisters?  Does anyone else think one of them bears a striking resemblance to Miss Piggy?

BTW, what the hell is Weezer?

Wrong, distasteful, (oughta be) illegal and certainly beneath all of us :

See, you don't have to linger beyond your "sell by" date to be a repugnant, processed plastic poseable action-figure travesty.
You can start stinkin' the joint out from the get-go!

Miley Cyrus?

Do we count the ones who are packaged by their elders/parents and forced upon us?

BTW, how many of us would KILL to see Louis Armstrong back for one last (last) show?  Sinatra?  Pearl Bailey?  Bing Crosby?  Many, I am sure.  They did it with style!

Gimme Buddy Guy anyday.  Dylan, the most artistic of the lot, hasn't been interesting in a decade or two.  Fame must be addictive and/or we know it pays well.  I really think Steven Tyler should get on a cereal box.  Ozzie Osbourne made a ton of money from television.  Image has taken the place of originality.  Sell, sell, sell!

Come on, Pinkerton was not as strong as the Blue album, but isn't bad and the Green album is very good.

Katy Perry is 26 and she definitely cannot sing live.

And Taylor Swift at 21 cannot sing live.

And then there is Justin Bieber. I guess talent means very little these days.

As for Dylan, I never cared for him all the way back to the 1960's. Did anyone watch his Time Magazine interview way back then? Very arrogamt.
