I disagree. His recent album " No Better Than This" , IMHO, is one of his best.

Soundbitten1 and Vinyl Lady
I agree that his last album and the one before it was quite good.
I do like it when he gets a band with a good rapport, like he has done previously at Farm Aid.
Sometimes he has put on the best show there.

You guys are scaring me with those photos.  I have to avert my eyes! :o
+1 on the quality level of Springsteen tracks of recent release.
The best I've seen out of him was an impromptu guitar solo during Warren Zevon's death album.  He just ripped it in the studio with Zevon watching on a couch.  Good stuff.

I'm sorry, but I have a difficult time with Brian Wilson's "somewhat" relevance. I feel that he outlived his valuable contributions a very long time ago, and after that, we all got dragged along for his emotional ride, whether we liked it or not. I don't think I could stand one more whine regarding Paul McCartney, the Beatles or the Sgt Pepper's album. Whine? Maybe that should have been the name of his album. Too harsh?

Johnny Winter info....

Wheeled out yes....he broke his hip...has a hard time walking and standing.

Remember....he's an albino...

His condition - not good....he was a heroin addict as well....many trips to rehab...he's now clean...but it took it toll.

Ever see the movie "Two Lane Blacktop?"  -- Brian Wilson [Edit:  Dennis Wilson ] and James Taylor before they were famous.  Such an odd movie that is; I can't decide if it's the best or the worst movie I've seen in a long time.

Saw Johnny at Clapton's Crossroads Festival this last summer.  Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes helped him walk out to his chair where he promptly massacred Red House.  His voice was good, but he couldn't get his picking and fretting synced up and there was a lot of plinking going on as well as out of key notes.  Derek did an outstanding job carrying him thru the song and Warren just stood back, played his part, and looked completely shocked.  I was really looking forward to hearing him play, and you just couldn't help but feel sorry for him.  The only song of the day that wasn't good.

IMO, his most recent album, Reimagines Gershwin is very creative and quite good.

Six yers ago I heard the Mike Love and the Beach Boys and they were fantastic, but after seeing them again last year, I would say don't waste your time or money.

The Beach Boys minus Brian Wilson who is still somewhat relevant.

Another rocker that has not quit or has lost his hair is 72 year old Paul Revere(pictured in center). He still rocks and play the organ in his show in Branson.

Here is an example of them playing in Branson. Son of Bill Medley(Righteous Brothers) is the lead singer.

Here's another one that hurts... Joe, it was time to stop!

Joe Cocker

I also really gotta disagree with ya here. His most latest albums are some of his best work. Check out his 2007 Hymn For My Soul and the 2010 Hard Knocks.

Much RESPECT!  :notworthy:

Cheers,

I have to disagree about the great Joe Cocker.
I seen him live about 4 years ago and that was one of the best live performances I've ever seen.
A real class act.

All right. I'm gonna have to follow up on this. Maybe I'm wrong. There was just so much of his material that I felt he was already "pushing it" years ago. I'll check out his latest work before casting my final vote. Got to admit... bad pic. Though, it was alway something to watch him. On a side note, I'll never forget when John Belushi out did Joe Cocker with his impersonation of Joe Cocker on Saturday Night Live in the 70s.

Here's 1 minute samples of Hymn For My Soul (I was a little off on the correct title):thumb:  There's less screaming and more singing from today's Joe Cocker which is just more appealing for my older ears.  8)

Who's idea is it to keep pushing these old farts into the recording studio, or worse out on stage?  Greedy promoters/agents/families/creditors?  Do these old farts realize how pathetic they are?  I drive 3 hours to visit my 86 year old dad weekly, oversee all his medical needs, and try to maximize his happiness and dignity.

This thread is like trying not to stare at road kill.

The term "rest in peace" should also be applied to the elderly more than the dead.

Smokin' Joe comes out of the corner...he's in his classic crouch, ready for bear!

Delta (A YOUNG George Foreman) Wave hits Joe with Van the Man...ouch, that hurts!
And now Delta Wave pops Joe on the head with John Hiatt! Pow!

It's over, ladies and gentleman, it's over!

Whoops, forgot the famous Howard Cosell line: "Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!"
How does that song go, Joe?

I too disagree re Robert Plant and especially Tom Petty. Mojo is a great album and Petty's last tour ROCKED! :guitar:  IMO they are a long way from being done.

I saw Dylan this summer with John Mellencamp and I agree it is time for him to quit touring.

I love the last two Robert Plant records.  In my opinion, they're fantastic.  Then again, I can't stand Led Zeppelin.

Rick Springfield (born Richard Lewis Springthorpe) August 23, 1949

I saw Springfield at the OC Fair in 2009. While certainly no virtuoso, the guy rocks and has a fun time. Pretty stunned when the guitar player said Rick was about to turn 60.....and his harder rock music from his last couple of albums really kills his pop-candy style of the 80s.

This is a fun and sometimes brutally frank thread (Johnny Winter!!!).

I'd like to add to the list-
Hot Tuna
Bob Weir/Phil Lesh
Dicky Betts

Now, OTOH, can you think of musicians who have gotten better with age?

Richard Thompson, Dr. John and Leonard Cohen come to mind.

Speaking of Springfield playing harder rock, a fun look is his early playing in the Austrailian band "The Zoot" on youtube. Rick played lead guitar and back-up vocals back in 1968-1971. It is amazing how he made it to the states and the rest of the band didn't. A couple of very hard rocking songs they did was "Elonore Rigby" and "Hey Pinky". Rick relaly picks that guitar.

This is probably one of the best Beatles cover ever, very hard rock.
