Ed, have you tried an electric starter? Just stick it under a pile of charcoal, plug it in and remove it in about 15 minutes. I found it easier to use than the flue approach

Hi VL,I have owed a couple of the electric starters throughout the years. In my situation I would have to drag out an extension cord to get the electric unit going. Easiest for me has been the flue, to each his/her own!Best,ed
