Introducing WyWires...
« on: 28 Apr 2010, 07:13 pm »
Good Day All…After 8 years of research and testing I have come up with a new and different design for high end audio cables. The company, Wywires, LLC was officially launched as of March 1, 2010 with patents and trademarks pending. The mission of WyWires is to provide audiophiles with cables that clearly outperform even the most expensive and esoteric designs. While our cables are not entry level priced, they are at a much more down to earth price point than their performance would indicate.  Since our cables are truly a departure from what everybody else does, they can only be made by hand from scratch. Our beta test program is in full swing and will conclude on July 1, 2010. There is still time to participate if you wish to do so. There is no cost for participating and you can keep the cables if you like them with our compliments. All we need from you is a detailed description of your system and your system goals as well as a commitment to listen to our cables extensively, compare them to your current reference, provide a written evaluation and make yourself available to answer questions. We will be somewhat selective in this process since we need a broad cross section of system types and listening tastes. Because of the costs involved, we can only select a limited number of participants. If interested, please go to our website, www.wywires.com and contact me.

So far, we have a dozen or so experienced audiophiles participating and the initial reports are as follows:
•   Eerily silent background between notes.
•   Spooky realism, especially vocalists.
•   Greatly expanded soundstage in all dimensions including the vertical.
•   Takes the edge off of sibilants (SSS's) while maintaining inner detail.
•   Presents instruments in their lifelike scale, e.g., presents violin and cello as different sized instruments.
•   The most natural rendering of tone, timbre, attack and decay.
•   Excellent dynamics, both micro and macro. Great percussive slam.
•   State of the art definition and resolution of complex passages.
•   Excellent low frequency performance that belies the size of my woofers.
•   Forgiving of less than perfect recordings, maybe to a fault.

We look forward to your valued help in bringing our products to market.

Down to earth pricing and $1000 cable sets don't seem like the same thing (to me anyways).  Best of luck and interested in seeing what the technology is all about.

Alex,

I'm a sucker for test drives and am curious as to what your efforts have yielded.  I dropped you an email.

I received a pair of Alex's phono cables on Monday to test and I must say, first impressions are great!  I don't want to say too much before its had some time to burn in, but I will say right off the bat tonal balance and soundstaging is great!  I will report back soon once I get some hours on them.

Alex sent me some cables-RCA to RCA for my DAC to receiver connection. They are very cool looking and have a unique type of RCA connector I have never seen before. The outer collar of the connector is spring loaded and when you insert the pin into an RCA socket the outer sleeve slides over and into place...probably just something I haven't seen yet. I will post pictures of cables and connectors unless
thats a no-no??
They sound very smooth so far, actually right out of the box and into my system the clarity of CD's and other sources became clearer and
background noise is definitely reduced. I used to get the all too familiar tube sound when inputting anything from my DAC but it has decreased that sound or hum alot..its not totally gone but it is most definitely lessened.
On 1-10 scale as far as cool looks factor goes they are a solid 9 in my book...off to listen :thumb:

Any thoughts yet Fred? Maybe you might have some comparison thoughts between the WyWires against the Nagy cables that you also demo'd? Thanks Fred.  :D

I would love to hear more also and I will be the first to say that before one is about to compare $150 cables to near$1500 ones he should do so with this in mind.I also do not think Naggy had a phono on tour?I would like to hear how they compare to Nordost Vahalla's or Cardas golden reference for a more fair comparison because if they are better than the vahalla's,they are a great deal. And if they are the same as the Cardas, they will be close to par....persay.Look forward to your comments Fred and Eclein.

Alex said I could post some pictures...I want to make sure I do this correctly as I know cable's and IC's are a hot topic.
Here are snaps of cables, connector pulled back and the plug itself.

I will just post what I hear, don't hear,etc...I was asked to let them break in...so first things first...tunes!!!!

I thought I did and even complimented the nature that the comparisons would favour Alex for either outcome.I was just justifying oranges and apples Robin. As Werd said, you brought up the comparison....no offence to you or Alex.

I might have misunderstood you,,, I thought you were looking to compare Nagy's to other brands in this thread and that's what I was referring to. Sure you can understand that,,,, even if I had got it wrong.  :duh:

Werd,,,,,, never mind.

I have no idea why in theory or scientifically wire would have to break in, but on day two these sound even better..smoother.
I looked up things like phonons and such and its all very, well analytical and scientific and I kinda glazed over reading it, then I realized
I was hearing things I never heard before or remember hearing before in recordings and music I have heard many, many times.

I think, at least right now and this cable is first specific use cable I've used, that cables are a lot like tubes-different ones have different flavor. This is only 24 hrs. in...the sound has changed-for the better, I can hear it. The plan is to play the same 5 songs each day at roughly the same time and listen for changes, hell I might even keep notes!!! :thumb:

I have other cables coming also from another cable tour so I'll, A,B them and compare them all to the cable I started with..this is very interesting and I can now see why folks get very passionate about this whole topic. :eyebrows:

I am working on a formal review, but that got held up a few days due to the birth of my first born!

So far my impressions are very positive and I'll get something formal up shortly.

Cant wait to hear other reports, Alex is sending me a couple of cables to try out. I am dealing with a little brightness or maybe its sibilence and Alex thinks he can help warm things up. I will report back.  :eyebrows:

These cables are like getting better and better as time goes by....its quite amazing, stuff I listened to this afternoon has more detail now..very cool how the subtleties are still subtle but can finally be heard. Totally different than what I expected quite frankly in a very positive way..
On one cut, acoustic percussion items sounded exactly as they do when played-hand drums (read Bongo's) on a Lee Ritenour track sounded exactly like I was back playing them..acoustic piano sounds very natural-realistic sound not a recorded sound. Cymbals sound like cymbals actually sound and thats an honest to goodness first.
I call'em how I hear'em and there is really no denying that these cables have elevated the sound of my system...I hear it for myself, I'm not being paid, I got a cable yep and man am I glad I did. :thumb:
