Everything was finalized a few days ago... and all material has been purchased minus paint...

Last night I did the rough sketch on mdf and figured out all the dimensions, shapes etc. Later today I will cut guide strips and then off to router land.. I will be making a complete set of jigs for these as I plan on doing a limited run of 26 pairs..

The design changed a little as it always does when you start drawing and designing to scale..

I named them after the first person to try a Lowther on a stick who also happens to be the owner of these   :green:

Turn the driver 180 degrees. How are you going to support it laterally?

Hey Chris!!

what you see above is just the jig that will make the majority of the build which the spine will consist of 5.... 1/2inch pieces of mdf sandwiched together.

what is not shown or built yet is the driver baffle which will only be the exact size of the driver and will be 2.... 1/2inch pieces of mdf sandwiched and the base that will be 3 .... 1/2 inch pieces of mdf sandwiched..

Turn the driver 180 degrees. How are you going to support it laterally?

Randy:
I still don't get why you have the stand in front of the driver which will reflect everything and alter frequency response and imaging. Hear my song: Turn the driver around....got to have good sound....got to have it...got to have it...(no offense to Vickie Sue Robinson, Laura Branigan or Gloria Estefan).

Chris,
Please forgive if I'm overstepping my bounds, or simply misunderstanding the build.
But....Looking at the picture I reposted below, this is the profile. The front of the speaker  is on the right side, as is the listener. It appears like the driver will be mounted in it's own "little-baffle" and slip into the channel cut at a 90 degree angle. Again, the driver would be at the upper most right corner of the speaker profile shown below.
Think of E.T. the Extra Terrestrial with a driver on his forehead like a "headlight" on a miners helmet.
The driver would then be "front and foremost" in regard to the rest of the speaker.

Randy, if this is out of line let me know.

Even with a very large radius on all the outer edges? The design is to look fast while standing still.. With it having such a small footprint only being 2.5inches wide with a large radius you really feel that I'll have reflection issues?

I can just as easily make 2.. 1 like my sketch and the other with it point the opposite direction.. the large chamfer on the mounting whole will prevent me from just making 1 and flipping it around to listen to either way

Yes, it will have reflections. Now if you designed those reflections to match the high frequency roll-off of the driver, it might be beneficial. I like the design look as well--just in reverse. I'm compelled to to have form follow function. Just throwing in my 2 cents.

went out into the garage to do some mock-ups and if I turned the driver around.. I can address your concerns with any reflection issues but at the same time incorporate a Lambda dipole 12    :icon_twisted:.......

Oh I see now.  :duh:
Seems plainly obvious now.
Not sure how I missed that before, I stared at the sketches and photos for quite a while,  but I thought the driver was pointed to the right.

Duh. Sorry 'bout that.
