Contrary to "it's a singing contest" it really is more of a "popularity contest" where cosmetics and charisma play a huge factor.  I only started watching AI last season and there's no way Hicks was even close to being the best singer.  Even Kevin / Chicken Little had more talent than Hicks.

My wife and I saw her in the round in New Orleans over 20 years ago.  She was soooooo good that we drove to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to see her again. :thumb:

I'm afraid that time is catching up with her.  After last night's performance I looked at my wife and said, "I hope they don't ask Simon what he thinks about that performance!"  She laughed and agreed.

Very sad....

Yes, she is right.  How could anyone make me miss Peter Cetera's vocals? :o
Her hair looked worse than Sanjaya's, too.

Sanjaya did his thing tonight.
It was funny, funny with the little girl crying...
Like it or not Sanjaya is sticking around and I saw at least the one hit wonder potential tonight...even if as a joke.
I think we have a new Donny Osmond or something.
Clean, sweet, harmless and androgynous, just what youthful pop music needs right now.

...Now they've just got to package it right and figure an image and sound to make 8-12 yr old girls to beg mommy for Sanjaya everything.  Like it or not I think it's gonna happen, he's gonna be HUGE

I heard yesterday that Howard Stern is telling his listeners to vote for Sanjaya...might explain how he's getting votes...! :duh:

Although my top 5 are still Doolittle, Lakisha, Chris Sligh, Beat-box-guy, and Jordin Sparks, I thought Haley Scarnato showed for the first time that she actually belonged in the competition with the most "authentic" performance of the night.

Sann'y boi racks up the votes on a very smart way of replying to what the judges are saying.
I've seen this before, done by other contestants... it just works that stuff.

He looks to be either very dumb or very smart.
Either not aware of his quality as a performer (lack of...) or... and this is the clinch...
Very aware of it and just doing the smart move of "keeping up appearances...".

As a conterstant in competitions like this, you NEVER EVER CONCEDE to anything other than that
you were content with your own performance...
I think he is doing a GREAT job on the wooing side of the voters!

And yeah, he sucks bad! Really, but I believe that dude could become a good artist, with some hard work and perseverance!

And people say that... "he reminds me of MJ..." That's worth a lot of votes... obviously.

It's like the judges are thinking... "We must be dreaming.... he's ruining this competition with his smile, and that hair!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAARGH!!! :? "

I think the longer he lasts, the more it changes the show, and not for the better, from the perspective that this is meant to be a singing contest.

From the perspective that it is a "popularity" contest though, things are tracking as they should be - people can be "popular" for reasons other than being good at what they do.

Everyone loves a car crash I guess...

Well, there's a certain amount of bounce to his performance, we gotta give him that...
