Hey ... good idea RayI'll tighten the nuts.I did find an RA nut that was loose the other day but did not think of tightening the rest.Cheers mate Jag
'ElloNick-san is doing a custom 5687 pre for me Jag
Hi Jag,Not being familiar with the character of each of these two tubes, would the 6N1P be brighter than the 5687 tube?RayHigh RayI'm using JBL active monitors with Titanium tweeters. These tweeters are a bit bright and I don't need to accentuate that any more. I do need richer mids and bass slam is not-compromise-able. Thus the 5687. Only problem I fear may be the microphonics as these tubes have a reputation for that. I might use Herbies tube dampers to help out there if needed. The JBL 6328's really slam, and add to that the 6312SP sub, WHOA NELLIE!. Just what the doctor ordered.
Hi Jag,It's a small ....Nick tells me to put the Promi in front of the pre but then I would just lower the gain of the phono according to me. So I wonder if I could put the Promi between the pre and the power amp if necessary at all. Maybe that would give too high a voltage to the Promi. We'll see.Shame on you giving up on the Allaerts, why?Sorry it didn't work out with the Tannoy DMT's but it turned out to be too expensive to ship them to Singapore.Still using the Living Voice?Cheers,Josps. What on earth is Tad?

This is a dual mono stepped attenuator with 36 hand matched resistors/channel and star grounding. State of the art way back then. TVC blew it away for keeps. Putting it back in now makes me wish I had gone for the transformer setup a long time ago. There is a mechanical quality to the sound that, once I have heard it, I cannot overlook. Funny how that works. Like that tiny dent in your car: your eye goes right to it every time you walk past.TVC is like paintless dent removal for me Thanks again for the summary of your tweaking. Going into the hospital for knee replacement fri. Will have lots of time for tinkering during recovery. GerryHi Gerry,I sure wish you the best in that knee replacement. Hope all goes well, with no complications at all.Ray

Assuming you can get it. Anyone else try to order some Black Hole Pad recently?I order June 19th...still apparently out of stock.
sleep tight!Dynamat is excellent for damping metal in cars....it was designed to do this. It can do harm once in the home, and in the hands of a 'phile tweaker though. its real strong, muy fuerte en espanol.as far as i know, there's no other audio specific material like BHP avail...is there???? damping material designed for trannies???
BHP is a MUCH better damping material for home audio....dynamat should only be used on metal inside your car.i've used both to damp my Lovan rack, to damp speaker baskets and other assorted tweaking. With only a small amount of Dynamat you can overdampen things REAL quick.Any idea how much it would cost to ship to you?? i have 2 entire sheets, really only need 1. i'd be willing to part with some or all of it for the right price.... BHP is cheap, its the shipping that jacks up the price.from what i've read, BHP was designed to damp audio transformers. Dynamat is like putting a strangle hold on items. However, it simply rocks when applied to my car's doors and rear deck.matt
