From the very beginning it was clear that Maui had an agenda involving the deal J Castler had set up. He repeatedly has been attacking the "group buy" and also his own loss on the several units he intended to sell. So now he has narrowed his smear from three parties to just Olive. Maybe if he had done that from the start he would be more credible...kinda shot himself in the foot
I don't think two questions have been answered satifactorily in this thread. What do the new Opus owners think about the sound of their recent acquisition? How is the sound through the Opus' internal DACs, as most would probably use them? Is the sound worse through external DACs? While science and design are VERY important, ultimately, IMHO, it is the sound, and only the sound that matters to me.
In the interest of two-sidedness, here's a verbatim copy of an e-mail exchange I had about this topic with someone else who was curious about the other side of this story:"I did get to speak to both Robert of Olive and Jeff of Resolution Audio in regards to that posting on audiocircle by Anthony (MauiMods). I got a different side of the story for them. Apparently, Anthony was very pissed at Olive because John (VMPS) offered a "group buy" on the Opus at a price that was well below the MSRP. Anthony was an Olive dealer and wanted to sell modded Opus units. He had words with Olive, then they removed him from the dealer list and he flipped out. This happened around the same time that he opened the Opus and discovered that it is a modded Musica/Symphony board... with the Resolution Audio DAC board. According to Jeff, Anthony is not placing his GND of his scope probe in the correct location and as a result, is getting a poor looking signal. He is supposedly also not using an active probe, so his probe is loading down the signal. Anthony's "fix" is to replace an inductor with a short (between two ground planes), but Jeff said if he placed his probe's GND on the other side of the inductor, he would see that same clean signal."Perhaps we can give this thread a rest? There's a *real* war going on in the Middle East!

Can everyone involved just stop it and take the discussion offline? This thread is becoming an embarrassment to the audiophile community no matter whose "truth" is more true.
It not an embarrassment to the community! It is an Asset! The people of the audiophile community who appreciates the truth, far outweighs the ones who don't.
It seems to me that it would be fairly easy for Olive to release a statement in response to Anthony. Why haven't they done so (or, at least in a forthright manner).
To the AC Moderators: There have been threads on AC far less incindiary than this which have made there way to the Integalactic Wastebin, and members have been kicked out for far less aggressiveness than has been shown here. I realize that this has been very entertaining for a lot of the folks watching the thread, but shouldn't a line be drawn somewhere?

This thread is becoming an embarrassment to the audiophile community no matter whose "truth" is more true. I was one of the peeps who ordered a Musica through JC's group buy. I was thinking about upgrading to the Opus until reading this forum. It seems to me that it would be fairly easy for Olive to release a statement in response to Anthony. Why haven't they done so (or, at least in a forthright manner). Why would Anthony put his credibility at stake to take on Olive? Personal vendatta? I don't think so - it makes no sense from a business model standpoint. If he's proved false, then his reputation and business suffer. The DAC (4 vs. 1) is pretty easy to figure out. If Anthony is right about the dac, then Olive is feeding some bulls**t to the public. So, will a current Opus owner please step up and open up your unit to confirm or deny the DAC issue.Personally, I think that Anthony is advocating for consumers and the vitroil aimed at him is misplaced. Even more curious are the people who are dismissing his arguments out of hand. Sure, he's a poor speller and over the top in delivery. So what???It seems to me that he has little to gain and much to lose. That adds credibility in my book. Just my 2 cents.

Why haven't they done so (or, at least in a forthright manner). I don't want to speak for Olive here, but I made a promise to myself when I became a dealer that if I was ever in a situation where a customer took an issue with me to an Internet discussion forum, I would adhere to a policy of not debating the issue online. Quite honestly, if an issue ever rises to the point where someone takes it online with the intention of slamming a company, that company will NEVER benefit from debating it publicly (or even just releasing a statement)...it all just becomes fodder for out-of-context quotes, continued bashing, and in the end, the truth never comes out anyways. My suggestion? If you have already bought an Opus, try it out, and if you decide you don't like it, return it via the 30-day return policy. If you bought via group-buy with no returns and you don't like it, then put it up on Audiogon or something. If you've been thinking about buying one, see if you can try before buying, or at a minimum, take advantage of the 30-day return policy. And in the best case, whether you already own or are thinking about it, you try it, you love it, and you keep it.To the AC Moderators: There have been threads on AC far less incindiary than this which have made there way to the Integalactic Wastebin, and members have been kicked out for far less aggressiveness than has been shown here. I don't know Phil,For the most part, this has been a discussion on an audio product. There has been no politics or religion involved. I think the issue could have been handled with more finess but I do want to hear from other owners of Opus. Heck, I am curious enough to may be buy one off Anthony (better be a firesale price ) to check it out..........

Yes you do, as you posted previously on this thread.http://www.aberdeencomponents.com/Your website Aberdeencomponents.com describes the products you sell: Esoteric, Tact Audio, Furutech, DH Labs, Magnum Dynalab, Michael Wolff. Perhaps I don't understand your definition of an online retail store, but advertising products you represent on a website seems to fit the definition. Futhermore, you list the address of your place of business, which is called Aberdeen Components. Now, perhaps you don't consider your place of business a retail store, but it appears that way from your website. In fact, it appears to be your home (click on Satellite view to see the 18 wheeler parked out front ).http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=6618+Universal+Ave,+Las+Vegas,+NVTherefore my statement is germain to your comment and I see no reason to retract my post.
