Sorry Phil,
I took one of your postings the wrong way.
This is a problem with forums, and emails...
It lacks emotions.
I know well, who Phil is, and Joshk, and others in your group.

Anthony,

No worries...I did assume your response about my dropping RA and picking up BC was tongue-in-cheek, so I figured we were good.   8)

Josh and Max, thanks for covering my back...  8)

I suggest we all go relax and listen to some music....calm music... :guitar:   :D

So, still no Opus owners from the group purchase chiming in.  I guess that I am the only one, eh?

Anthony,
What about the Opus that you're selling for $2600? After modified by you, do they still sound like PA speakers?

barry

I just had a few people over for a listen.
NOT GOOD.

The sound quality is like a PA speakers in a phone booth.
no soundstage, no depth, very fatiguing...
On a positive note, The Opus, can make you appreciate your system more, before you got the OPUS.
Before the OPUS, while listening to my Systems. My speakers disappeared in the room.
Now it is like PA's horn speakers aimed at my head.

They above phenomena from my experience, is due to high jittered data.

BTW:  this was duplicated with both analog, and Digital out.

Barry,
The 'Fix" was grounding the digital side of the board.
But it only fixed the clock, and the spidf was Lost all together.
I can see why they "conveniently" left that ground out.

Between the Jitter mess, and all the Marketing Hype of FALSE advertising,

Your way ahead if you get a Musica, or a Symphony.

Why pay 3 times the price when you can get, something that works and sounds better,
that the Datasheet is facts and the hype is correct.

Of course Phil . I didn't think Anthony meant any harm and was not wound up in the least. As a Musica owner, I'm very interested in what is being discussed. We need to talk about way more serious matters than audio to get me fired up.

Noisier???  I have the top  off and I cant even hear the HD. Maybe it depends on the HD brand or model..
The only noise I hear is that Notebook style CD/DVD drive...
Now that's LOUD...

Well we got no replies and no return calls...
Looks like they are in hiding..
Monday I will move forward and get these units shipped out to AP., and to a few reviewers.

I wouldn't count on it. The Transporter still uses a SMPS to power the digital section.

For less than $2K, I'd rather have a Musica or Cambridge Azur 640H Music Server.

According to Sean Adams, that's not true:
Actually no, the power supply architecture is totally different from Squeezebox. Switchers are only used for certain non-audio, high-current stuff (displays, knob, CPU etc), otherwise they are not in the path at all.  Linear supplies are used for all analog, DAC, and digital clock paths, and they use toroid transformers to the AC line, with separate secondary windings for each function.  (emphasis added)

I stand corrected.

Guess we'll have to see how well the SMPS & linear ground planes are isolated.

IMO, it's overpriced. At this price level, it would have been better to put all
the display/control functions on a PDA style remote.

Another example is Blue Circle...standard industry margin, but it takes 2-3 months to get a product built (they are hand-made by the designer, and only built when a customer order is placed),

Well now I feel a little better about my 5 to 6 week backlog for the Signature 30s (which is being reduced and will get better soon...).

I have yet to hear what I would call a noisy Symphony or Musica.  The only noise that is a little loud is when the CD-RW drive first reads a disc or when you skip tracks.  When playing the CDs, the hard drive is very quiet and when playing off the hard drive, the drives have been very quiet.  I know there are different hard drive brands used (Seagate, Maxtor, Hitachi, Samsung) so my guess is that some had louder drives than others.  Not sure if there are noise specs on the various hard drive brands and models...

As far as the "group buy", I didn't know that I had to adhere to a specific "protocol" to be a real group Surprised

I saw the products, became a dealer, wanted one for myself (which I couldn't afford) and organized a group buy.  Plain and simple.  I told OLIVE I was doing so, and communicated how it was going several times.
Thanks for the reply.  I'm also an Olive dealer but have been told under no circumstances can I sell for less than MSRP.  This company is bothering me as I also can not get my hands on the 180GB Musica's and insist I can only sell the 250GB units (which isn't bad, but they cost more).

Classic example of Manufacture Bad Ethics. I would drop Olive like a brick.
I just came to my attention, that Olive voids return privileges if you do not go threw them directly. They pass it to the dealer, or the dealers who advertises a fire sale.
This is another reason to deal direct with a manufacture on a authorized group buy. So the person within the group, can deal with the manufacture direct, if any problem arises.
I am just looking out for the Dealers and the consumers, this is why I have 20 linked websites
for the Dealers and consumers soon to be released.
