not only did Bute get beat, he got exposed. He had a clause in his contract for an immediate rematch in Montreal in the event he lost. Few at the moment seem to be expecting him to exercise it.

You know, that is how I felt at first.  Surprisingly Bute says he had a lot of losses as an amateur, that he will take a little time off and then he will be back.   So you know, it is a loss.  But Bute is really dedicated and very smart.  A lot of guys comeback from bad KOs.  W Klitschko comes to mind... I have my doubts about a Froch rematch but then again after his near disaster with Andrade I was really surprised when Bute gave Andrade a rematch...

Well I certainly got the call on Bute Froch wrong :duh:.  As a long time fan of Bute ( I have seen all his fights and been to many of them) I am shocked and a little heartbroken by the result...  Bute is a genuine gentleman, I don't know how one comes back from such a devastating loss...

One of his issues was that he fought most often in Montreal in front of friendly fans, referees, and in a familiar setting. Have seen fighters who were brought along ins a similar manner take a bad loss when they fought a good opponent in a different venue

Naseem Hamed is a good example of that, a classic big-fish-in-a-small-pond frontrunner. Danny Romero, who fought almost all his fights in front of the hometown fans. There are others, as django notes.

Having gotten over my shock I am going to wait and see before I give a final opinion on Bute.  The way the fight went the crowd didn't have much time to be a factor.  The big factor was Froch and how Bute chose to react to him.  Bute made a really bad choice as he thought he could lay on the ropes and catch Froch with a big left hand in between Froch's punches.  Fail!  He did hit Froch but the guy walks through most punches and before Bute could realize that he was doing something dumb, the fight was over.  Bute just doesn't have the chin to stand and trade with Froch the way Pascal did.  I could have out boxed him though.  Maybe the fact that he was boxing away from home made he be more aggressive than he should have been thinking he had to impress the judges.  He should have waited on Froch and counter punched.

I still think Bute is very talented.  I mean who knocks out Andrade?  And who else has made Glenn Johnson look like a club fighter?

Anyway, my two cents

He was definitely classy in defeat, applauding Froch at the announcement of the outcome

Prediction...Manny wins by decisive KO this Saturday.  Bradley's only hope is to head butt Manny as he has done so many times to other fighters.  he's like a little Bernard Hopkins, his best weapon is his head...literally.  Manny is too fast and strong and I don't think Bradley has power to earn Manny's respect in the ring.  Look for Pacquiao to walk through Bradley's punches and put him to sleep.

Cheers,

J

hopefully he can pull it off but one good cut from a headbutt, his legs cramping up again, thinking about jesus too much, and it could be a rough night for him.  interesting that manny refuses to see a specialist about the cramping.  they say he didn't play any basketball at all this whole camp so they're thinking that will help.

I have a friend who has been watching "HBO 24/7" and SWEARS Pacquiao looks soft and keeps telling me "He's going down."

I wouldn't say he looked soft at the weigh ins, but he's not as ripped as usual, but he is at welterweight now...  he came in right at 147.

We'll find out pretty soon... Bradley looks hungry for sure

update, just watched weigh in
Manny NOT as ripped as usual, but... will it matter?
Bradley's KO % not very high... Manny has been hit by guys who hit much harder... Gotta watch the head though.
Like Mike Tyson used to say, they all have a plan, until they get hit.
We'll see...

For Bradley to get a KO would be a big upset.  So at worst for Manny it goes 12 rounds.  Bradley was down twice against Kendall Holt  so if Manny is in shape and motivated he has 12 rounds to test Bradleys beard.  Manny has faced the better competition too, so I like his chances against Bradley if he can avoid getting hit by Bradley's big noggin...

Bradley has a hard time hitting a moving head and Manny hardley ever stops moving. Manny is easier to hit from a boxer than puncher or brawler but it is hardly ever too devestating lately. You have to stay right in front of him if you can and square up. Over hand rights and left hooks to Manny's body are Manny's triggers for the devastating straight line drive left. Bradley's only hope is if Manny has slowed down a bit and does not move is head much. Bradley has speed and likes to brawl a bit but I wouldn't think Manny will want to get inside and just start throwing blows back and forth. My prediction is Manny will be cautious, jab and move, then pick off a left hook to the body and drop Bradley. This would be a horrible time for the Pacman to let down his guard and get caught coming forward. Greatest counter puncher I have seen with uncanny accuracy in the last couple of years. Even if he can't see the guys chin he seems to know right where it is when countering. Bradley does look good and Manny doesn't looked like his ripped self which has me wondering if he trained very hard or if he thinks he didn't need to train very hard for this guy. Either way I think Manny puts him to the canvas.

Ya gotta go with Pacman based on the competition between the two guys alone.  But, if you think Pacman is not as ready as he should be, Bradley could make it interesting.  I don't think Bradley is a very big puncher, either, only 50% KO ratio.  He's trained, alright, and he's got the will.  I just don't think he's got anything over Pacman.  Pac by decision.  Appears to be a nice undercard.  Dunno why there are so few venues in Houston showing this.  Hate that.

Do think the fight was rigged? Never seen anything like this in my life. Bradley was out classed by a mile and was backing up after he tasted Manny's power.
Money is in the re-match.

This is a scenario I considered.  It is a very good one for Manny.  It takes Mayweather out of the picture.  If Floyd wants back in it will be more on Manny's terms rather than his now.  And Manny get three fights instead of two.  Bradley gets rich.  He's a hard working little cat in the right time and place.  More power to him.

BTW, AP had it 117-111 Pacman, I think, and fans still keep coming.  I wonder how many FANS had it for Bradley.  Ah, but only the judges matter.  They seem to be the same ole judges at that.  When there is massive sums of money to be made, there is corruption.  Bradley was actually the SAFE bet.

Rigged? If it was, Pacquiao wasn't in on it. The shocked look on his face said it all but he quickly composed himself. The results were a joke, and a rather bad one at that. Manny led all the rounds save one, which might have been a tie (10th) but he landed about twice as many hits and hit harder at that. Bradely could only bob and weave his head by bending at the waist. It was like he had a rod you-know-where. Manny knocked him back, hard, several times and when he had Bradley in the corner, his body blows moved Bradley sideways quite a bit.

Rigged? You bet and it was so blatant that I doubt I'll watch another fight again for a long, long time. At the end of the 3rd round, Bradley's trainer was telling to use something, anything to follow up his jab and a few rounds later, another corner man was telling him to ignore the pain.

What a pathetic joke. I see nothing 'good' in this unless you're a bookie.

This was a travesty, and highlights everything that is wrong in boxing.

My friend who watched the fight called me late last night and said he felt Manny won easily. He was shocked by the decision.  This is a shame but it sets up a big money rematch. If Manny won, the only big fight left for him would be Floyd.

I haven't seen the fight but I hear Bradley won the first round and ran away for the rest of the fight. Manny supposedly looked sharp and focused. It's hard to knock out a guy who is fighting not to lose. Looking forward to seeing this fight.
