Now only 100 miles away in Springfield, MO.   :banghead:  Can't wait to get them here.   Just hope the truck is not caught in a tornado.

A few years back, I would go to vintage guitar shows in Nashville, Orlando, Chicago, Philly and would hire trucking companies to pallet and ship back to California and most of them didn't have detailed tracking and only when they hit the trucking companies warehouse were we made aware of their arrival...it was pretty trustworthy to entrust 50 to 70 guitars and not being able to track them.

Never had one broken or lost in the more than 20 such shipments like this.

Crap!  The speakers are showing up at my office TODAY!  I know, I know, I should be :hyper: happy with the fast delivery, but I have to work late tonight, I need to empty the Buick Roadmonster station wagon and fix the tailgate to get the speakers in, my buddy with the truck is unavailable, and it's gonna rain like hell tonight and tomorrow, so tomorrow may be shot.  Maybe I can borrow my neighbor's old truck with no license plates.

Rub it in, A******!
At least I have the forklift fired up and ready to go, but I don't dare leave for lunch for fear of missing the shipment. :nono:

Got 'em home, thanks to a friend with a truck.  And just before the rain hit.  I won't be back home until late, so there may not be photos til tomorrow night.

Bonus: the guy with the truck now wants to buy Maggies, maybe even my 1.6s!   :thumb:

Edit:  The dealer (Audio Center in Deerfield Beach, FL) typed out extremely detailed instructions on how to assemble the speakers.  Thanks, David!

Nah...I wouldn't worry about pictures Steve.
Bob has one of those old Poloroid Insta-shoot things with the expendable flash bulbs that mount on top.
Not sure you could make out the Maggies by the time he has Kinkos scan the picture.

Might be easier to check the Maggie website after all.  :?

The picture will be even poorer with the dead flash bulb, too.
It's hard to get good replacements off of eBay.

At least he got his speakers and that's what counts!
That room is so large that the 1.6s must have seemed dwarfed but I think he came up with the solution to that problem.

Good point about the dead flash.
After buying the Maggies, he may not be able to afford new flash bulbs for a while.

At least until wifey says it's ok.

Poor Bob.

Update:

When the shipment arrived, and even when I moved the boxed speakers into my room, I thought "these speakers don't look all that big."

When I unpacked them and stood them up, I thought "Holy CRAP!!!  These things are HUGE!!!!  Reminds me of those Easter Island sculpted figures that loom out of the landscape.

Anyway, it's late, I'm tired and I have the stereo unplugged because of lighting overnight.

First impressions?  Not only can you not tell these from brand new (not a speck of dust ANYWHERE!), the dealer did such a fabulous packing job that you couldn't even tell the PACKING from brand new!  Everything was PERFECT!  Even the scotch tape on the parts bag looked untouched.  I am EXTREMELY pleased with the effort that Audio Center put into making sure they got here safely.

More tomorrow night on "As the Speakers Turn"

Pictures will follow, and flashbulbs are not a problem.  I have two cases of #5 and #5B bulbs in the basement, I have a functional flash gun that uses them, and I am not afraid to use it!   :icon_twisted:  I am still looking for some of those HUGE flashbulbs the size of a 60 watt bulb.  They are GREAT for scaring the shit out of people when you put 'em in a regular light fixture.  Just make sure the lamp is switched off before you swap out the bulbs, or you'll have charred stumps where your fingers used to be.

The only stupid thing when assembling the 20.1 is screwing about 50 wood screws to fix the ribbon on the panel. A bit scary to move the screwdriver 1/2 inch away from the ribbon. Also the silky fabric on the ribbon is moving  strange.
And you want to use a hand screwdriver, not a cordeless one  you just never know. You hand will show you if you still got it  :thumb: after you fix all of them. Maybe a little workout before doing this?

Took me a few hours to carefully do all the hook ups, and steal some jumpers from my 1.6s.  Since I had Belafonte at Carnegie Hall on  the TT while putting things together, dropped the needle on it.

1st impressions?  MUCH more body!  Much more detail, timbre, finesse, depth, and the magic that makes a Maggie a Maggie!  Will be up late trying different LPs/CDs, but my Parasound HCA1000A seems to be pushing them without effort.  Belafonte's voice is coming from MUCH deeper in his chest, the applause is less sharp, more body from the  instruments.  Feel like I am on center stage just 20 feet from him.

And once I put them where the 1.6s were (farther apart), they don't dominate the room as much.

In summary, these things deliver the human touch in BUNCHES.  Can't ask for much more than that.  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Great!!
Were the ribbons attached or did you ahve to screw them on? If yes, how is your hand :green:
First impressions are much more fundament, everything more coherent and stabile. If you feel that the ribbons sticks out(they always sticks a bit), then the reason could be the amp or the position. Now you can try all of the positions in your wonderfull room!

Everything was carefully packed in several boxes, so yes, I had to install the tweeters, and while I found it much less daunting that I had expected, there was still a big "WHEW!" when I was done.

Today's gonna be another 14-hour day and then the wife comes home from a week-long business trip.  You know what THAT means, don't you?

Yup.  I gotta get this damned house cleaned!

Maybe that explains why I like mine with the ribbons on the inside!
