Been out for a few hours, enjoying May weather in March!  Just before I left I leaned in toward the speakers, and things got better, so I may move the speakers out another foot or so.

Dire Straits "Brother in Arms" is under the stylus right now.  I know that LP very well, but not well enough to be prepared for what the 20s do for it.   :o :o :o

Will turn the speakers in a bit soon, but I really don't want to get out of my chair right now.

These "spikkers" are a retirement present to myself, 3-5 years early.  At this rate I may phone in my resignation tomorrow.

That's a really nice turntable - you're looking a little peaked, maybe a sick day is just what is required to get you back into the swing of things?

It just HAPPENS to be Spring Break, and I work at a university, so I plan to spend some time out doing photos for a winery when I am not in my chair.

Update:  I'd start switching out amps, but the system sounds so damned good I may relegate the amps to doorstop duty.

Been listening to a lot of New England-themed folk ensembles today.  Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

And found that I had the SPL meter set wrong.  It's been running in the 80 and 90db range, but I still haven't gotten out the Telarc 1812 or the Dinosaur roar sound track before he ate the lawyer.  What WAS that flick, anyway?

While I've been worried about cooking my amp, another threat is looming from above...................

My wife's damned bird is sitting up on the ceiling fan, right over my head.  It's only a matter of time before it craps on me.

Should it ever crap on the Maggies I'll stuff a very small pillow with it.    :shake:

Just turn on the fan!

If it is 80 to 90dB 15ft. away at the listening position how loud is it at half the distance or at 1 meter.
I am thinking you are using a lot more power than might first be assumed due to the size of the room and the distance to the listening chair.

Maybe I'm all wet on this, but larger magnepan's tend to load the room differently and don't necessarily lose 3db per meter as do conventional box speakers.

In my case, I only lose about 4db of spl at 8 feet.

Just turn on the fan!

Doing that killed my neighbor's bird, and I would pay a terrible price if that would happen to she-who-shall-be-obeyed's cute little crapping machine.

You'd think if it could fly up there, it could fly down, but oh, No!  Not little f****** precious Jenny!

I really don't care, so long as if I look up I keep my mouth shut, but now it's barking at the music so the solution is thus:

Step 1:  Get ladder

Step 2:  Climb ladder

Step 3:  Slowly turn fan blades until flying reptile is within reach

Step 4:  Persuade bird to get on hand

Step 5:  Bird flies off hand and lands on head

Step 6:  Bird flies off head and returns to fan

Step 7:  Repeat process until successful    :duh:

BTW, now that it's stuffed back in the cage, Dire Straits "Love Over Gold" never sounded so good!

That'll be on the CDP tonight! If, that is, I can pry myself away from the TT.   :thumb:

BTW, tried an LP of Flogging Molly last night.  Love the music, but recording sucks.   :nono:

Sorry to continue the derail, but which Flogging Molly?

I have 3 of theirs on vinyl and the sound quality of Drunken Lullabies is by far the worst (and it's their best music)
