The Tailor of Panama.  Bright and witty script.  Interesting characters, lots of plotting and intrigue, and an anti James Bond character all at the time of Noriega's downfall.  It's a good one!

Let us know what you think James, I'm keep changing my mind as to whether to buy it or not.

Just watched The Piano, just to keep my wife happy really, but I really enjoyed, nothing like I expected, I can't believe how Anna Paquin looks exactly the same today, just a bit taller, I thought it was funny how she is running around in Fairy wings in the Piano 20 years ago and now she is a fairy in True Blood, she really is type cast :)

But seriously, it's breathtakingly beautiful, and deeply flawed. Moments of transcendence and moments of monumental misjudgement. Worth seeing but not buying - there's much much better Malick from Days of Heaven to Thin Red Line to Badlands. Tree of Life's visionary, but with an uncomfortable new-agey sensibility that reminds me of Antonioni at his most detatched and dreamy and meandering. TOL is corageous and singular, swoony, mumbly, and self-absorbed.

Watched two Blu-rays this weekend: a) Rise of the Planet of the Apes    Meh...

b) 2010 re-imagining of The Tempest with Helen Mirren - odd but captivating. Should come with a warning sticker alerting the public that the cast includes the excreable Russell Brand. Yup, Russell Brand...and he's awful. Just awful.

Jules Verne's Master of the World

I have wanted to purchase this movie for a very long time but unfortunately it has eluded me for a couple of decades. I had even forgot that Vincent Price was in the movie. Ironically, when I placed my last music order at CD Universe, I also noticed that they sold DVDs and the rest, so they say, is history.

Great movie and I enjoyed the simple special effects. It is very disappointing that some of the newer movies released today attempt to have the special effects compensate for a weak storyline.

Be well...

This is not a movie, but a really fun find on Netflix.

There was a show very recently on Spike called Deadliest Warrior. The show compares and examines two different warrior types (examples: Shaolin Monk vs Maori Warrior, or Green Beret vs Spetznatz, Waffen SS vs Vietcong, Vlad the Impaler vs Sun Tsu, etc), examines their tactics and weapons using real practitioners, and then uses advanced computer simulation at the end to arrive at who was the best.

It is a very fun show to watch, and there are two seasons worth of episodes (the entire run of shows) on Netflix.

Highly recommended if you have an hour to "kill".

Finally got round to watching the original Star Wars today on BD, thought both the picture and sound was really good, but what really struck me was how much better the original is compared to the new 3, considering it is 35 years old it has really stood the test of time brilliantly.

Also today I watched Shutter Island at last, I thought it was excellent, especially when the end starts to unravel, once you know the outcome it is  definitely a film that would benefit from a second viewing as I'm sure there would be a lot of clues that were not noticed the first time round, Highly recommended.

We watched Cedar Rapids last night on HBO. Never heard of it, didn't know what to expect which probably helped. My wife and I really enjoyed it.

So far today I've been making the most of the Easter break and watched both Source Code and Adjustment Bureau, both great films but I think I enjoyed Source Code the most, great idea and well executed.

Both had great soundtracks though that showed off the brilliance of the SP3 :)

Swedish trilogy, "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", Netflix and Subtitled.
Had to see what all the advertising was about, a bit late.

Watched "Crazy, Stupid, Love." with the wife on blu-ray last Saturday night.  It was a surprisingly funny and intelligent romantic comedy.  Had both of us in tears at various points alternately caused by laughing and poignant scenes.  I highly recommend the film.

We watched that a week ago or so. I thought I was sitting through it for my wife and found myself enjoying it very much. Sometimes I think movie enjoyment is linked very closely to mood.

Just finished watching the 2003 Re-make of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I still consider the original to be one of the most unsettling horror films of all time, this version was well done, but just not as chilling, Jessica Biel looked pretty hot though

Recently watched Midnight in Paris and Another Earth. Very different films mood-wise but both were excellent.

Watched Black Sheep last night, I'm still not really sure what to make of it to be honest, I can see what it was doing and I love a good horror/comedy but it just didn't do it for me really even though it had a few good lines in it, those wacky New Zealanders
