just before the rain, under gray skies I tried out the tripod walked across the street to my neighbors flowers.


D5100, 28-105mm @105 macro, 1/100s, f/4.5, ISO 100

the lens is not a true macro, but a 1:2 macro. I wonder since it is on a crop DX (1.5x) body and it's FF lens if that ratio is a bit larger?

I was hoping some of you know what that is.  It's like 2 to 3 mm in length at most, and I noticed them on a herb plant in the back yard.  At 4x magnification (4 times more than 1:1 "true macro lens"!), the little wind present prevented really tack sharp photo even with tripod.

Wow, that tight band of focus is so weird.  As long as it doesn't crawl up my leg I'll be fine with Mr. Spidey.

I haven't laid hands on a current model DSLR lately, but from what I can tell the high-ISO signal\noise ratio on these things is really incredible.  My camera looks like hell if I take it past 200.

The current Canon IS is not *that* good yet. I think I had my elbow bracing a wall nearby.  The noise looks worse because I heavily cropped the photo, as the spider was one of those tiny ones.

I am glad someone agrees with me on Canon's IS.  I thought it was just me.  I have a Canon 5D II and a Panasonic G1.  Oh, a Canon G7 also.  I just somehow felt that pictures taken with Canon cameras are not as well-focused as the Panny..... I have a somewhat shaky hand due to childhood injuries to both, so I am very picky when it comes to IS.  I have to be extra, extra careful taking closeups or macros.
