This weekend I compared the 45 RPM with my very good original issue (described earlier in this thread). I listened to the original first, then the 45 RPM, then
Oh Daddy and
Gold Dust Woman again from the 33 1/3 to get a fresh comparison with the 45 RPM version. While the 33 1/3 is a very good recording and sounds great, listening to the 45 RPM version is a jaw-dropping WOW experience. Greater dynamics are the first thing I noticed along with more of a "the band has to be in the room" sound. There is more music, GREAT imaging and soundstage, more depth, clarity and detail. The sound is very clean from top to bottom on a dead quiet surface. The 33 1/3 sounded great before the comparison and a little dull or flat compared to the 45 after listening to the 45.
IMO, if you liked the original, you will love the 45. If Rumours is a favorite album, then the 45 is a "must have" and easily worth the $44 I paid. They did a terrific job with this one. The title of this thread is spot on--The 45 RPM Rumours is fantastic! Get yours while you can.
I hope record companies will do more 45 RPM reissues of great albums from the past. If they do, I might have to find a second job
