Seriously these rumors boggle the mind. Apple can't keep up with demand so let's make a new iPad!!!!  :duh:

Let's face it, it's all FUD that is being pumped out by desperate competition looking for any opportunity to undermine Apples success. It won't happen.

I was able to use an original iPad last night.  The virtual keyboard worked very well for typing a short email, subject to search for, or password.  I was impressed and think it would be excellent for what I want to use it for. It was just plain fun and very useful. While talking audio trash with my friend I used the iPad to look up a couple of websites while simultaneously controlling his music server.  :thumb:  Then he quickly emailed me a link so I would have it when I got home.

Those who dis the iPad because it is not a laptop should get a clue.  It isn't a laptop and is not meant to be one.  If you want a laptop, buy a laptop. If you want to have fun while still accomplishing some less intensive tasks, get an iPad. It is on my list as soon as supplies improve.

Anyone have experience with the Clamcase or have other recommendations besides the Zagg Mate for a keyboard and sturdy case for traveling?

I saw several articles stating that Logitech would be distributing the Zagg Mate for the iPad 2.  The link below says Logitech will actually be building the cases. The other articles did not confirm that and neither did the Logitech press release. I wonder what changes will be made if any besides resizing to fit the iPad 2.

My friend bought a Zagg Mate and returned it the next day.  He did not like the keyboard action and said the iPad was not held firmly enough to use the touch screen.

I think I could be quite happy with the iPad and just the folding Apple cover. But I want to see what advantages I could get by properly "accessorizing".  I definitely would like a more sturdy cover for travel (very limited travel).  But maybe an iPad will be like "don't leave home without it".

Now called the "Logitech Keyboard Case for iPad2"

There is no keyboard that will be a good accessory the way you want it to work from what I've seen. The Zaggmate is the only one that fits the bill, albeit poorly it sounds like. I still think the apple wireless is good for occasional heavy typing, but not great for everyday carry.

I agree about the keyboard.

Hopefully there is JavaScript support in the future.

So, it's not a laptop, but it costs more than one?  I'm sure one day I'll get an iPad, but for now I haven't figured out any uses for it.  Once it it able to completely control one or both of my home theater systems via RF (not IR), then I'll consider it.  Until then, it's just a bigger Touch.

Don_s' "should get a clue" comment might perhaps need to be kept in perspective with his own comment referring to himself as "Apple clueless" less than two weeks ago. A bigger Touch is certainly likely to be useful around here; frankly I think it really just comes to a value equation for the most part.

Ctvittgen  It is like a big Touch, though not in the condescending manner most people intend unsually when they say that. With the right tools you can use it or any iOS device as a remote control. I saw one yesterday that is a wireless base you place 10-15 feet away from you equipment and it uses an app you download to not only control you components but display showtime and info (rather than network centric info. so in other words you surf info based on your preferences primarily and not the tv network hourly listing view like most receivers do.

check it out, it's called Peel :thumb:

THIS is what is great about all iOS devices. You say 'I wish it would do this or that' and more than likely it already does. Having owned every iOS device I say they are all more or less the same and that's a great thing. They all work the way you would expect them. The iPad is definately the most exceptional computing experience I have ever had across ANY device. In that sense the Touch is more like a small iPad.

Conflicting reports out there (no admission either way from Apple), but is the March 11 Japan earthquake/tragedy limiting or halting supplies of iPad2's?

Has anyone heard of at least anecdotal evidence of this in the supply chain?

I ordered my 16GB wi-fi only iPad online on March 27.  So, it's well shy of the 3-4 weeks they estimated it would take (2 weeks after the quake, so I suspect it was a reasonably good estimate Apple used by that date), but just wondering if I should brace myself for something longer.

I'm actually very much looking forward to having one.  I'm generally not an early adopter to either new technologies or even models, I prefer to buy when bugs have been worked out or prices come down or additional tech 'fixes' are introduced...but, my hands on experience with the iPad2 at the local Apple store was so positive I felt $500 was more than justified for it's purchase now.

I work from home, full wi-fi here and the iPad will allow me to waft around with greater freedom that my laptop ever would...and with less eye strain than keeping up on my iPhone4.  As well and as mentioned earlier in this topic, it may afford me the ability to do take an overnite trip without any laptop, armed only with the iPad2 and SugarSynch cloud storage, if I need access to files for the 24-36 hours away.

For me, it's the near perfect 'tweener device for my lifestyle and I think it'll make me considerably more productive and ultimately happier as a result.  But, all of our lifestyle's, financials and other situations are different - so it's a very individualized decision for all  :)

John

EDIT: to Pez/Jason's post above - I have PEEL (which is FREE!) on my iPhone4 and merely use it as a TV Guide for me anywhere I travel to. But, it has the capability to turn your iPhone or iPad into a universal remote using your wi-fi router in your home (or office).  However, the accessory to get this done is $99.95.  So, it's not free, but mostly in line with costs of full function remotes of other kinds - while consolidating to one device.  As well, PEEL is a very effective channel guide no matter where you are (at least in the US; I haven't used outside of US yet) in addition to it as a possible universal remote.

The iPad2 is alike a bigger screened iPod Touch...with the convenience of dual video cameras for Facetime and SKYPE use.  It feels like a jewel in hand - and as a guy that often squeezes cash so tight it makes dead Presidents scream - for me to quite willingly spend $500 to own one, should tell you a bunch

The Peel looks pretty sweet.  It's always been easy to control any network enabled device from iPad or iPod - but others like TV, cable boxes, DVD players, etc. have required a dongle of some sort to plug into the iXXX to allow it to broadcast IR.
