Neil Young Comes a Time
One of the best, IMHO, Neil albums. Had it on vinyl years ago. Refused to pay $18 for it when I could rarely find it.  Hey $8.99 is still expensive for SecondSpin!

Have you ever heard an electrified fairy tale? Heard this album a few times way back in the late 70's probably when Pez was in diapers, and could not rest until I figured out what it was I had heard. Finally found it. It is still in shrinkwrap, with the old kind of seals on it - a silver colored metalic tape tab thing, across the middle of the edge - with a "Compact Disc Super Saver Series" sticker on it.

Well, did you?  I saw him live when he opened for Semisonic in Boston.  At the time I didn't take him seriously... I kind of thought of him as an Eddie Vetter rip-off.  However, I liked his music and he was definitely into it when I saw him perform (Kind of Eddie-ish).  I ended up buying his album out of curiosity.. (I missed most of his act).. and now I've bought his next album as well.  Both albums are in the regular rotation and my wife really likes him as well.  After that show, I got a promo disk for Bob Schneider who was playing later.  I have really gotten into his music as well.  His big album was 'Lonelyland' which I find extremely good.  It's kind of folksy-bluesy-rock.  So, this one concert turned me onto 2 awesome artists.  Plus, I got to meet everyone in Semisonic and talk to them for a while before the show.

The latest my wife and I have picked up is Dave Matthew's new one... AWESOME album.  I've listened to it at least 6 times in the past 2 days.  I generally don't care for DM that much.  I liked Under the Table and Dreaming and that was about it.  The rest was good but, nothing I got super-excited about.  This latest album is pretty mellow, clean, simple, and more musical than any previous album.  It's melodic and 'pretty' in a lot of ways.  It's also fairly dark and eery at the same time.  Go Dave!

She also bought Sting's new one.  Sucks... from beginning to end.

This I am very glad to hear -- its his solo album, correct?  The albums have continually gotten worse to the point that I yawned when I heard a new release was out..  But you're the second peson that has mentioned it being mellow and a bit dark, which usually what I'm after..

Greg Brown tribute "Going Driftless"  and Richard Shindell's "Courier."

I sent someone some Gillian Welch stuff, so she copied a CD of the Greg Brown tribute (which has Gillian doing a track). Quite a groups of performers--Lucinda Williams, Ani DiFranco, Iris Dement, Shawn Colvin, Mary Chapin Carpenter as well as some names that I'd barely heard of (but who carry off their songs as well as the stars).

Richard Shindell is also in the singer/songwriter/guitarist school; "Courier" is a live performance of hits from his past three albums.  Maybe a blend of early James Taylor and Bob Dylan??? Very pleasing voice, but some of the lyrics confuse me---"Nora" makes comparison of a love triangle to the scandalous love affair of Abelard & Heloise (I'll have to admit that I had to look up Abelard).

About DM, yes, I believe it is solo... I didn't really think about it but, the band's sound is missing.  The long violin solo's are gone... etc.  If you like Tori Amos, older Sting, (Dream of the Blue Turtles), and Pete Yorn... I can't see why you wouldn't at least enjoy his new album.  There is a special album that's the same price at Best Buy that has a bonus live album in it.  There's some older stuff on it that's boring but, hey, it's free.

I would've never bought it but, my wife went on a binge lately.  She got the latest Tori Amos album as well which she loves but, I haven't decided about it yet.  

Sorry to hear you missed Yorn.  Maybe he'll be back and you can be 'Yorn again'... har har...  sorry, couldn't resist.

The Stingk album is listenable I guess... but, not by me.  Again, if you like the old stuff.. and maybe Mercury Falling.... you probably won't like the newest one.

Got Concerto for Orchestra/Miraculous Mandarin - New York Philharmonic yesterday in the mail. Very realistic sounding MC disc - very subtle hall ambience mixed to the rears. Need to have another listen when the house is less noisy but first impression was great!

Picket up Jet - Get Born yesterday on a whim and gave it a listen last night.  Really good CD and pretty damn good recording.  In the same genre as Strokes and other neo-beatlesque bands.

BTW, I picked up this CD at Virgin Mega for $7.99.
