WOW, that's a hell of a list.  You'll love the sound of zeppelin II on vinyl,
also Steely Dan-Goucho(SACD) & yo-yo ma-Obrigado Brazil sound very good too.

Jcoat,
How did you like "The pleasure of my company"?

Hint: look on the coffee table of the 2 channel system?
:)

Steve Martin is so damn funny.  That book had me rolling from the very beginning.  I don't know where he comes up with his ideas, but he is a comic genius.  When I was a kid I bought all his albums and memorized all of his routines.

I was going to finish it tonight, but got caught up in listening to some tunes.  Most of that list is still unopened.

Good eye!!!

I'm a huge Dan fan and a huge Zep fan as well.  I just saw that they packaged the first four Zep albums into a set for $200.  That's $50/each while they are selling for around $30/each seperately :o .  The catch is that they include a 45rpm outake of Stairway to Heaven that is (according to the review I read) totally awesome.  So do I open the one I have or take it back and get the set?  Don't know.  But while contemplating that I opened Gaucho and cranked it up.  Sounds much better than my original release copy that was in my Dad's attic.   :D

Niel Diamond - Greatest hits

Yes, the king of schmaltz, and I'm enjoying it a lot :-)  I grew up with Niel always around, thanks to my parents.  I'm finally old enough to listen to it w/out being ashamed.  Well, not too ashamed

You probably recommended them somewhere else here at AC, because I know nothing about classical music.  I am getting more and more into it though.  Those are very good recordings.  A lot of what I buy is hit and miss from Acoustic Sounds.

I bought the Schiff on your recomendation in another thread.  :thumb:

Little Feat Waiting For Columbus (Rhino Records remastered and extended) had the LP then the chopped off CD - now I have this one. In reading the liner notes, it is not as live as one would think. Still it sounds great.

Keb Mo Just Like You Heard some of it on the radio

Clarence White Tough and Stringy 60's sessions of the legendary acoustic guitar of the Byrds country rocker.

Simply Red Picture Book. from 1985. Features "Holding Back the Years". Amazing male vocals and excellent bass movement. A great recording for 1985. Could be Terence Trent Darby's cousin.

Christmas Mad Money
I got some "mad money" from my inlaws for Christmas, so off I went to get some new music, what better way to spend it!?

On SACD:
Peter Gabriel "Security" and "up"

James Taylor "Flag"

Nickel Creek "Creek" and "This Side"

Nora Jones "come Away with Me" (I decided to get this on SACD hoping it will revive my interest in the recording, I'm tired of most of the songs on the CD)

The Who "Tommy"

On CD:

Ambrosia "Ambrosia" (I couldn't do without this anymore, the Ambrosia anthology album has three of the best songs from this album, but i wanted the rest.)

Plainsong (Ian Matthews) "In Search of Amelia Earhart"  (This was the real gem, I loved this LP back in the late-70's, and the sonics on this CD haven't disappointed me)

For my daughter I bought the following CDs as "stocking stuffers":

Yellowcard "Ocean Avenue"
Hoopstank "Hoopstank"
Chevelle "Wonder What's Next"

Oh yes, almost forgot the crown jewel:

Shostakovich - Complete String Quartets performed by the Emerson Quartet

Man, this is some crazy-ass music!  I also have this set performed by the Fitzwilliam Quartet (boring playing), the Eder Quartet (to smooth and toned down), and the Borodins (amazingly good).  The Borodins have more of a manic/sarcastic and overall weirdness than the Emersons, but on the other hand the Emersons have moments of pure fury that are stupefying.  I wouldn't want to be without either set.

I have loved Yoshimi.  Tyson, or anyone else, how is The Soft Bulletin in comparison?

Soft Bulletin is better, IMO.  If you haven't checked it out yet, do it post haste.

After hearing this song ,"Buena", on Vince Scelsa's "Idiot's Delight" radio show on Saturday nite http://www.wfuv.org/ , I stopped at Tower and picked up the cd. The group is Morphine. The cd is "Cure for Pain". Its not new , came out in '93, but it's new to me and it's a very good cd. Lots of good tunes , sound quality is excellent. Reminds me of a group that played alot in NYC in the 70's , James Chance and the Contortions , except Morphine sounds much better. I'd recommend giving this cd a listen !

On SACD:

I couldn't resist the $9.99 sale Tower Records was having on the Rolling Stones catalog, so
I bought:

Hot Rocks 1964-1971
Aftermath (US)
Let It Bleed

On CD:

I decided to give BigCD.com a try and bought:

The Flaming Lips:   Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
King Crimson   In the Court of the Crimson King
The Pentangle   Solomon's Seal

I still have Curved Air "Phantasmagoria" on back-order from them.

The Stones SACDs are just plain fantastic, both in their SACD layer and standard CD layer.

As for "Solomon's Seal", I've been hoping this one would show up in the CD catalog one day. Apparently the master tapes were difficult to locate, something about being in a pile of tapes holding up a harmonium...

"In the Court of the Crimson King" is the 30th anniversary re-master done by Frip, and I can say that my old LP of it didn't sound this good.

As for The Flaming Lips discs, I am enjoying them, but can't easily catagorize the music. I certainly can hear what all the buzz has been about, but like Tyson, I prefer "Soft Bulletin" to YBTPR.
