I need a sub that sounds good but looks more like a side table - tall - but not too deep and wide - high SPL is not required.

I need it for audio only - though would rarley use it for moviews too ...

Any suggestions would be welcome ...
Thanks
Sunil

I had the Rythmik Servo Sub - good sound, good price - but looks like a sub (not high enough) and if I could trim a few inches here and there - that would be great ... low frequency extension is not that important -- if I get down to low 30's that's good for music and I cannot play music too loud anyway - max 90 db (once a blue moon) for a short period - but otherwise 75 db to 85 db

So, I am imagining if I could get Danny's Servo Sub (one or two drivers - if that helps in reducing the volume) and then raise it to 24" or so ...

The sub would work with monitors (custom TRL) to give more heft ... I don't miss the sub when I play music at reference levle 85 db but I do miss it when I play music at lower level (most of the time) 70- 75 db
and or the recording does not capture the low frequency properly ...

Thanks
Sunil

That would be great!  Maybe from the side as well?

How deep is it?

Here are the pictures, sorry I didn't get them last night. The amp is about 3 3/4" deep.

Would using two SW-12Bs lower the F3 also, or just increase the SPL?

The SW-12B and SA-1 amp combo is not about SPL levels. It is about quality. How well made your box is and how solid and none resonant it is also is a big determining factor. If you want quality and SPL use two SW-12B's on one amp. If you need more than that use four SW-12B's and two amps....

It is just going to increase the SPL unless you start making a line of them (big line source).

I saw in another thread that you showed the F3 going lower with each driver added to one of the LS (or was it Alpha?) line source speakers. Does the F3 change depending on the driver, or is it a set amount/ratio? How many drivers does it take in a line before you see the line source effect? Will it happen with just two drivers? Will stacking 4 subwoofers create a line source?

Lower wavelengths are really long. So distance differentials from the top of a line compared to the bottom of a line are slight compared to the length of the low wavelengths (very little phase rotation) so they always tend to couple verses higher wavelengths that tend to have comb filtering effects that reduce output.

The amount of gain is directly related to line length and the range being covered.

What is the minimum depth for an enclosure with the SW-12B?
I am cooking up a new idea...

Danny,

For us rookies...do you have plans for a 1.2 cubic box?

Just build a cube that is 13.5" square and use 4 braces running through it hitting all four sides with the center cut out of all of them. You can double up the wall thickness on the front and the back. Then mount the amp in one end and the woofer in the other...
