Do you have any reliable sources on that JBL is now made in China and Mexico ?
(and which of JBL's models it concerns)

Answer to your question:
I don't care if the quality is the same and if there are no other negative issues.

Yes, I spoke with a JBL employee...I haven't asked him if he wants to be named. All production is going to China and Mexico. China will make the cabinets for the Arrays, the Everest and K2s are made in Europe. In Mexico, the drivers and assembly will be done. Now, design, research, and development will continue in Northridge, CA.

That's fine, but again, I'm nto paying big bucks for speakers made in those countries! I already have Mexican made JBLs which I bought for $900 shipped. Retail price on these are $1600.

Vegasdave,

E-mail JBL customer services and voice your opinions. :!:

Bring these points up when you see them at trade shows - put their representatives on the spot and ask them difficult questions and do not let them get away with anything. :!:

An example ensues…

A large majority of Canadians do not bother to vote in our provincial or federal elections and the politicians know this - remember, it is only a minority and not the majority that elect governments. I firmly believe that voting must be mandatory for all citizens - if you truly enjoy the benefits of a democracy, mandatory voting is a very small price to pay and this would drive the arrogance and “do as they please mindset” from all of our elected officials.

Anyway, I digress…

What I wanted to say was that I contacted my MMP last year with respect to the then proposed HST (more taxes)  and now will be implemented in Ontario in a couple of weeks time. I told her that our household supported her during the last election but will vote against her during next year’s provincial election and I also reminded her of how small her margin of victory was.

Will it change anything? Not this time, but you must start somewhere.

I was informed that my satellite subscription was going to increase by over 20% with no improvement in services and when I inquired about this, the customer service representative suggested basically that there was nothing I could do about it. Yes there was - I cancelled my service and I was with them for 10 years. I have not even missed them - turns, smiles at stereo system. Most of these companies need us more than we need them. For example, do we really need cable? How reasonable would cable prices become if we all terminated our cable/satellite services?

I contact corporations when I see “imported for [company name]” instead of “made in [country]” on their products. I have found out that a lot of food products are now imported from China and only marked “imported for [company name].” I inform them of my concerns about the long, documented history of toxic and poisonous products imported from China. I tell them that I will leave their product on the store shelf. Do you want to eat anything produced by China when it is one of the world‘s most polluted countries?

We have all become to comfortable and extremely complacent and it is high time to change this…

So vegasdave - start right now, put your foot down and write JBL.

Well, I could. But, what's done is done. They're not gonna move out of Mexico and China because of me.

I did, and that's great, but again, JBL is not gonna move production out of those countries. It's not gonna happen. So, I'm boycotting their products by not buying them ever again.

It is simply amazing the improvement in sound quality of your system when you move a small, industrial robot from the front of your speaker.

Nap.

It is a Selective Compliant Articulated Robot Arm and is mostly used for automated "pick and place" assembly operations. Here is a video (this is not my robot in the video, but is the same model). I was very lucky - I have two of them.

Must be some discontinued old stuff. These days they're running call centers in Mumbai.

Can you program it to pick CDs for you and insert them into CD player?

Why not let one take you for a ride? It appears that these individuals have not heard about the consequences of erroneous transients in robotics.

Man, if I had that I would totally program it to feed me grapes while lying on my Roman Bed.

Back on topic, I would love to hear these with some Byrston:

Wow, 2 12" woofers. Not bad, not bad at all. The price is a bit more than I wanna spend, though.  :|

Have you heard the K2-S9900 ?
If yes: How do they compare to the DD66000's ? (if you have heard them too)

Can you tell us how your 1400's sound is using Bryston amplification compared to other amplification ?

Hello V,

I auditioned the 7B SST², 28B SST² (note - unmodified units) and the Krell FBI integrated amplifier with the JBL 1400’s. The Krell FBI is also a most awesome integrated amplifier - a quality unit for sure. The CD players were the BCD-1 and the Esoteric X-05. The audio produced by all 3 of these amplifiers was outstanding and none of these systems were lacking in any way.

My preference leaned toward the BP-26, 28B, X-05 and JBL 1400 combination. The dealer also had the Project Array 800 and 1000 on the floor. Imagine my surprise when I heard the improvement in audio of my post modified 28B’s - wow.

I have not heard the K2’s or Everests as of yet - I will some day and I look forward to it. I am just curious how much these two speakers go beyond the 1400’s performance.

Be well...

I've heard the Everests. At CES. They're awesome.

Laundrew,
I suppose the BP-26 and 28B really make the 1400's sing :)
As said, the 1400's are great speakers. Believe it or not: The Everests are far better !! They are the best I've ever heard. Hearing is believing.

A hi-fi enthusiast with a PhD (topic for his thesis was DAC) once wrote (maybe 6 years ago) that quality/price flattens out at (his estimates):
* $ 170 000 for speakers
* $ 17 000 for amplifiers
* $ 1 500 for CD-players

and for cables the limit is very low (or no audible differences are found at any price).

Add 20%, say, for inflation, and you have today's "limits".
His estimates clearly say that we have to pay a lot to reach the top for speakers.

Thats interesting V, but what do you think the cap would be for each component in your own personal room ?
