1) The Day The Earth Stood Still (The Original)
2) Close Encounters
3) Serenity
4) Blade Runner (Directors Cut)
5) E.T. or Star Trek (2009)

No real order except for number 1...IMHO
Enjoy!

Not sure if you want _my_ Top 5, or what I think _the_ Top 5 are. So, my 5:

Blade Runner (Director's Cut)
Fantastic Planet
Invaders From Mars
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1956)
Silent Running

(or, if I get up on the other side of the bed...)

Dark Star
Forbidden Planet
Heavy Metal
La Jetee
THX-1138

That's precisely why I picked the first one.  But they are two entirely different films:  Alien is the perfect Sci-Fi horror film, and Aliens is the perfect Sci-Fi action film.  They're both great.

I have a tough time choosing favorites, so I'm going to cheat a bit:

Metropolis, Serenity, Solaris and Stalker (both by Tarkovsky), 2001 and Clockwork Orange, Dark City, City of the Lost Children

#5. Back to the Future
#4. Space Balls
#3. Spaced Invaders
#2. Evolution
#1. Young Frankenstein

I think Young Frankenstein is a gothic horror send-up, not Sci Fi, but my nomination for the funniest Sci-Fi is:

wait for it............

MORONS FROM OUTER SPACE   :thumb: :thumb:

Think 2001: A Space Odyssey meets Spinal Tap meets National Lampoon's Family Vacation.  All from a British slant.
Hard to find but WELL worth it.

Dumbest Sci-Fi?  Starship Troopers, hands down.  What a stinker!

Best ever?  A Clockwork Orange

For me #1 has to be "2001" I read the the book in 1968 and then begged my mother to take me to see it. (I was 9 years old)

Some might find it slow and dull. I thought it was pretty much genius, then and now. State of the art pre digital effects that still hold up. Plus, I love the story. I imagined myself to be the character of David Bowman when I was a kid. Not only an astronaut, but the man who crosses over to the next level of human evolution. All sorts of cool sub plot stuff. Was the crazy computer David's Judas, who betrayed him but led him ultimately to his destiny? And then of course was the use of music.

Rest in no particular order, original Alien, original Matrix, BladeRunner, and AI.
