1)  Day the Earth Stood Still (original)
2)  Forbidden Planet
3)  The Thing (original)
4)  Silent Running
5a)  War of the Worlds (original)
5b) Invasion of the Body Snatchers (original)

Showing my age. Kudos to John Carpenter on good remakes of - The Thing & Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Honorable mentions -
This Planet Earth, 5 Million Miles to Earth (aka Quatermass & the Pit), and last but not least...   Them !

Thanks for the thread, many already mentioned are would be on extended list, all but impossible to pick just 5.

I thought the director's cut of Blade Runner was terrible. The theatrical cut was much better for me.

2001 A Space Odyssey
Star Wars(ep4)
Blade Runner
A Clockwork Orange
A Boy and His Dog

It is very hard for me to not put Star Trek The Wrath Of Con in place of A Boy and His Dog.

When all the old downtown theaters were going broke and getting seedy, I saw the opening of 2001: A Space Odessey on a huge wide screen- complete with organist at intermission.  It was absolutely the most incredible thing I have ever seen on film, with Avatar a close second.  The ranking of many of these has much to do with how and where you see them.

1. 2001: A Space Odessey
2. Avatar
3. A Clockwork Orange
4. Blade Runner
5. Alien

So many I didn't think of, and I thought I was a scifi guy.

I am shocked and appalled that The Ice Pirates is not in any of these lists!

Alright, seriously, here's my list:
1) Star Wars IV: A New Hope
2) Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
3) Predator
4) Terminator 2
5) Back to the Future

Honorable mentions: Aliens, A Clockwork Orange, and Pitch Black.

I also recognize 2001 probably deserves to be on a more objective top 5 list, but I'm assuming we're talking about personal top 5s here.
