Exodus Anarchy Design
« on: 3 Feb 2010, 02:19 am »
I've received some interest in a design for the Anarchy woofer from Kevin Haskins and DIY Cable. If you're interested I'll test a pair of woofers and suggest some possible tweeters. We can provide a wide range of parts for you to choose from (Vifa,Scan-Speak,Peerless,Usher,etc just to name a few) as well as assembled crossovers and precut baffles. We can provide the woofers as well in complete kits. Your choice of crossover parts. Assembled systems too for the non-DIY audiophiles.

Full measurements will be provided - impedance, nearfield bass response, and on-axis/off-axis response curves. Crossovers can be altered for speaker placement as well if you have specific needs such as placement near the rear wall.

Feel free to email or PM here if you're interested.

No charge for the design and testing time! The cost for parts will be the same as you would pay to the distributors plus shipping to you.

Forgot to add - I'll be working on a MT design. I have a few different test cabinets to experiment with sealed and vented box tunings.

The new Voice Coil arrived today with Klippel tests for the Anarchy.  :thumb:

I'll be doing some Linkwitz distortion testing as well.

Yea.... no surprises in there.   His Klippel pretty much matches ours so that is good.   The T/S & FR differences are just due to differences in measurement technique and are all close enough for government work.    Overall.... great break-down and it pretty much tells you everything measurement wise about the driver and I think he sums it up well.    :D

Yes, the review looks good. One thing I've already noticed is that the Parts Express curved .5 cubic ft. cabinet isn't going to be very practical. With a rear port and the depth of the woofer there's not much space to mount a crossover. About the only option would be to glue it on the side behind the brace.

Put the port firing into the tweeter.    The depth of the midwoofer doesn't matter then.  I've screwed/glued crossovers to the top/bottom of the enclosure following that approach and it works out without having to do anything silly.    You may have to be careful with the bottom where the woofer motor intrudes if you are using any big coils mounted up on end.    If so... swap the woofer network to the top and place the tweeter network on the floor.

I use the el-cheapo PE port with good success.  It tunes the cabinet to about 40-42Hz without any modification.  The 2" PSP works too but I've not noticed a sound quality difference at sane levels.    The PSP would buy you perhaps a little more headroom before the port would audibly chuff but that is already at a very high level.    For the most part... you won't have customers running them that way because it is at an uncomfortably high output level.

Tweeters and the test cabinet have arrived and next is cutting the baffle. We are taking a different approach that will be the best design possible at a reasonable cost.  :thumb:

What tweeter are you using with this woofer, Rick?

The new Dayton silk dome (I believe Usher manufactures it). There are several 1" domes and a few ribbons that also would make a nice companion.

The initial crossover design is finished and the parts arrive next week for final tweeking. The woofer's response is a little tricky to work with but I managed to remove the breakup and have a smooth response curve. Nine components total for both the woofer and tweeter.

Will rear-porting also work with this design? Still, looking good so far, thanks for your efforts.

Yes, a rear port is fine as long as you have at least 12" from the back of the cabinet to the wall behind it.

The crossover design is finished and it turned out very nice! I'm considering offering a full kit with precut cabinets or possibly partial kits.

Love to hear more about a possible kit.  Also, what kind of efficiency can be expected from this design?

The kit with tweeters, assembled crossovers, internal wiring, ports, damping sheets, terminals, screws, and shipping (mainland USA) is $350/pr. so just add woofers and you are ready to go. We can also quote precut cabinets as well or even assembled systems. Standard poly caps, Mills resistors, and air core inductors. Premium caps also available upon request.

Sensitivity is going to be around 82db so I would suggest an amp in the 75-150 watts/channel range. Below are the measurements.
