Ah!
Now were talking...............
Tannoy - My entire system drove Tannoy speakers until very recently (when I went to PMC)
My cinema room ran the "Definition Series" - Without question the very best Tannoy ever made for cinema. The down side was that they did not produce a matching Sub, And that the Center ch was sold to dealers in pairs !!!
The center speaker is on of the most accurate I have ever tested (For a cone driver)
My system also had the Supertweeter on every channel....
So the complete Tannoy system was
4 x D700
1 x D750
5 x ST200
(2 x Rel Stentor III & 2 x REL Storm subs)
I have kept this system just in case I was not happy with the PMC MB2 replacement, Thats how high I rate the Tannoys (For those that love PMC)
Tannoy then went on to the TD8,10,12 series - BUT for a cinema room speaker WHY WHY WHY the massive CHROME edge trims! That light just shines off........WHAT A SILLY IDEA !!! and YES I told them so !!! In fact they were building a complete TD10 + Sub system in a special finish for me, then pulled out at the last minute..........I think they realised their own colour scheme was POOR.... Also their Sub has a sloped top to it, so the concept of single point source was KILLED by their own design...You could NEVER stack a TD10 on top of the Sub unit...........SAD but I think looks killed that range andI like many other Tannoy fans put this range behind the previous version......
Which do I prefer..........
£25,000 for PMC vs £7,000 for Tannoy (original new prices)
Value for money = TANNOY
BASS = PMC, more depth
Vocal = Tannoy you just cant beat that single point source concept
Overall PMC will stay, But I will always miss the Tannoy, in this case it was more than just audio quality that I had to give thought to, I have kept the Tannoy but will sell them in the new year........
Tannoy Black,Red,Silver and Gold series are known the world over, If you can get the 10" version then you have the best driver they ever built, the 15 is very much sort after but for the worng reasons extended bass but with loss of mid response......
Now the current top of the line is the Westminster Royal at about £15,000 a pair, If you want pair buy an old pair, not the newer POOR quality cabinets which is a real shame......
Now there have been many suggestions about the "best" driver configuration.......
check the B&W 800 (NOT 801!), PMC MB2XBD, Tannoy Buckingham
NOT 15" bass.......
SO guess what speakers I had in my 2ch system TANNOY BUCKINGHAMS, built in 1978 and replaced by me with PMC BB5........
Again I have kept the Tannoys, These are the BEST speaker Tannoy ever made and again I prefer the mids on these to the BB5........
So James enjoy your Tannoy

(I also have two pairs of B&W DM70 / SONY SS8000 for those that know what they are........)
