Hi werd

Have 2 of them in this system:

A 60 Amp 240 volt unit behind the doors you see behind the screen. The amps and the subs and the crossover power cords go through a hole at floor level.

I also have a 15 amp 120 Volt version in the equipement rack on the left side of the room - will post picture of that when I get home.

I would put that 60 amp torus right in between those the two amps where your crossover is. Put a fake fridge door handle on it for shits and giggles....

Pick your brain James - so to speak :)

What would the minimum rated Torus unit required to adequately supply power for a single 28B? I am wondering if it would be more cost effective of purchasing a Torus wall unit of proper capacity to power my audio system and install dedicated wiring. I am curious what the cost would be between 2 stand alone Torus units and a wall unit. Another advantage is that I would not have to find additional space on my equipment rack for 2 more boxes.

Thanks Jame :D

Be well...

Hi laundrew,

A couple of things to consider.  The WALL Torus is fine if you want to isolate and protect a whole room but the 'in room' units I think offer a better solution.

The closer the Torus unit is the the power amp the better the instantanious current draw. Also if you change rooms or move you can take your Torus investment with you.

The 28B can draw between 15 and 30 amps each depending on speaker load.

Hi laundrew

use an rm20 240 for each 28B( forget about racks ) put them on the floor or a floor rack.

Thanks James and werd :D

With a wall unit, I would install it in my room and would not expect it to be more than 15 feet away from the amplifiers at max. I would then "Steampunk" the Torus wall unit to better fit into my room aesthetics. Something like my MPS-2 "chuckle."

Hello James

Here is a question i have pondered.

do you think its better to put the amps closer to the Torus with longer speaker/shorter power cable runs?. Or put the amps closer to the speaker with longer power cable/shorter speaker cable runs?

Hi werd,

Good question - the advantage of the amp being close to the speaker is driver control whereas the amp being closer to the Torus is instantanous current draw capability. Obviously you want to optimized both if possible - which is what I did with the 60 amp Torus unit right behind the 28B's and the amps close to each speaker.

I guess if I was force to make a call - the amps close to the speaker takes priority.

I tried the 8's and the 10's and in my room the 8's were better in the midrange but the 10's were more powerful and filled the room more easily especially on major classical music.

The point source 'coax' idea in interesting and so far i have played with the following speakers using the same technology: Tannoys 8 and 10's , the Thiel 3.7 and SC4,  the Kef 207 and I have the Pioneer TAD system to listen to next.

The Pioneer's are one of the best! Very expensive too.
