Anyone hear Pass Labs' new speakers?
Chris,Nice find! Wonder if they'll have a trade-up program I've been thinking about the Denon 5000s, but I'm going to have to hear these first.Anybody know what the impedance is?-- Jim
Umm, I mean the 7000s. I thought those were much closer to the HD-800s. Not cheap in either case.-- Jim
Yes, they are. I think they will be the newest addition to my headphone stable. From the little I was able to listen to them, they seem comparable to my Ultrasone ED9's. I can't wait to hear the HD800's on a good amp.More pics here:http://cryo-parts.com/ces_2009.htmlPeace, LeeQuote from: rydenfan on 13 Jan 2009, 01:59 pmQuote from: lonewolfny42 on 13 Jan 2009, 05:48 amReading some of the reports from this years CES, seems Sennheiser has a very good new product..... the HD 800...... This is the first I've heard anyone compare the HD 800 to the ED9's. I've ordered the HD800 and would not be happy if they sound like the ED9, which I've owned. To me, the ED9's were unnatural sounding with an overemphasis in the bottom end. I've read that the HD 800 were closer to a Qualia 010 with more extension on the bottom end. They've been described as fast like you would expect from a e'stat headphone. A few have described them as perhaps the best headphone they've heard and this is coming from people that either own or have heard the Sennheiser HE90, Sony R10 and Sony Qualia. Don't get me wrong, we all hear different and like different things from our gear so I respect your findings. I just hope I don't have the same reaction.
Hey Chris, here is another person imitating your pose. I guess you have become famous now and people are trying ride your coat tails to be just like you...as they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery. (She kept her shirt on though )
Lee....Thanks for the photos and info.... Chris
The maggie demonstration was very impressive, almost as impressive as the VMPS live/demo in a large ballroom. I've spent considerable time privately auditioning both the 20.1 and 3.6 at several dealers . . . and I'm surprised to report that what I heard bested both of those! I thought they were going to draw back the curtain and show us something like a double 20.1 . . . the sound staging was excellent, the drum track sounded exactly like a drum kit (I've lived with one in my home for several years), base was tight and deep, and I detected no flaw. A seamless presentation. The diminutive mid/tweeter pannel (less than a foot square) was impressive. My wife loved the subwoofers with thick glass top. Definite WAF winner. I think Magnepan now has a serious problem: the 20.1 and 3.6 are now obsolete. And they have an opportunity to make a serious inroad into the home theater market if they can standardize reasonably optimal placement instructions. The panels were a couple feet away from the side walls, but the subwoofers were close to the walls, and not quite perpendicular to the side walls and a foot or more in front of the stand or table the panels were on. That shouldn't be too hard to duplicate in a home theater.
