But i prefer the 8 inch for its weight 17 gram appr. relative to 63 gram of a 12 incher and 160 gram for an 18 incher.

I would have, too. Before I heard that 18.  Very, very few speakers out there that are more dynamic.  No trace of overshoot or ringing that I could hear.  I would not have believed it of an 18, if I had not heard it.

+1

no wonder 18in p.audio woofer sounds so good, impedance curve has very little rise for such large woofer.

there is no such thing as "fast" or "slow" woofer. I used to have same wrong assumption that heavy cone is harder to control

Doesn't the fast/slow  thing have more to do with overshoot and ringing? (treinage -in French)
A woofer cone that doesn't start - and especially stop - with the waveform is one that sounds slow.
Could be for whatever reason, even the box.

Most pro woofers have strong motors and stiff cones and suspensions.  They tend to sound "fast" because they don't flop around much.  Put them on an open baffle and it can be very surprising!

At least, that's what I hear and how I understand it.

thanks to Kevin Haskins for providing link and hosting this paper

I once wanted to roll off high frequencies of woofer by adding heavy damping material to its cone,
it turned out that high frequency actually extended a little, due to tamed cone breakup :)
