Jim,

The note a few posts back about exploring high denisty foam sounds intriguing to me. If it can be made in densities that are equal to or more dense that the 'wood's' your using now and the finish's could be very contemporay ..this could be really neat.

I know your a master at woodwork and veneering but there are folks that would like various colors as well.

I can imagine "Jet Stream Blue", " Bowling Ball Black" , "Fierarri Red", " Sunset Yellow: etc... :D

If the foam can be molded thats a positive attribute as well...

Guess it gets back to price and availability..

All the best
Alex

Looking good so far.  Might just be the ultimate speaker in audio performance as I hear it.  Not that anyone in the shop is excited or anything!  It's gonna look very cool also.  But not a straightforward box speaker to fabricate.  I'm excited from what I have seen so far.  Haven't heard anything...yet.

Yup, I'm the only one who has heard it, and I don't have the final cabinet, which will be something pretty special.  Don't drop this one on the dog.  Or your foot.

I know you can't decide if it sounds better than the SongTowers.  :rotflmao:

PS. Dennis can't decide which of his "children" he loves the most!

any spy shots you guys care to leak?

I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing them when they hit the streets, hopefully in Oregon this fall.  Or if I can pay Jim a visit sometime before then in the shop.  Then I'll have to start buying lotto tickets until I can order a pair.

Cool - I look forward to meeting you this fall at the Oregon Coast GTG.  And hopefully a chance to check out the HT4's!  :thumb:

Just want to keep this thread on the first page since there is a pair of HT4's around. Awaiting for first impressions from Jim and Dennis...

FedEx tracking doesn't suggest I'll get the cabinets today, so it will be a few days before I know anything.

After several years of yearning to hear (any) Salk speakers, I have to tell you, I'm staying overnight with these babies when they get out here for the GTG...all four pair of them...but especially The Beasts!   aa

The upper half of the Beasts did finally arrive, and in tact.  Jim's been up to some very creative work in the cabinetry  department.  I fine tuned the crossover last night and will haul (well, wiggle) both of the completely assembled speakers into my listening room for some serious evaluation.  I have someone coming over Saturday for a listen and an objective second opinion.  The neighbors have been warned.  And I have ordered casters for those puppies.

When you get those puppies assembled and in place, could you please upload a few pics?

No pics yet.  Dennis only has prototype cabinets that are not in their final form.  We are working feverishly to finish the first pairs of production cabinets at this time.  We will have photos to post just prior to AKFest the first week-end in May.  Stay tuned...

Beat me to it.   Not that there was any risk of me taking a recognizable pic and figuring out how to get it posted.

:icon_lol:   actually got an out loud laugh from me on that comment Dennis.  I think that your renown for speaker & crossover design just barely eeks out the infamy of your forum picture posting skills.   Believe me, I am laughing with you on this one buddy, the only way I have been able to figure out how to post pictures on AC is completely by accident, and then only after much trial and error.

I am glad to hear that the new flagship is nearly set to sail, a few weeks away for the first production pair???   :thumb:

I would have to say that it sounds awful close to reality at this point!  Hopefully I will get a chance to hear them.

Jim:

Do you still plan to solicit proposals for names for the HT4 from your customers?   I have been very patient.  :D

So, we know its a two box enclosure. I hope it looks and performs something like that, with a ribbon option.(with unlimited finish options of course).

I've been following this thread for some time wondering what the new enclosure design will be.  I sure like the concept of a two box enclosure as it seems to be intuitively correct for isolation, baffle minimization/optimization and related.  I also like the idea of the non-parallel walls, along the design lines of Avalon Acoustics, Verity Audio (Sarastro) and Vandys (5A).   That photo reminds me of an Avalon Isis.
