I recommend the Delta Summits from Intuitive Design.  They combine electrostatic speed and transparency with box speaker dynamism and will match or better the speakers mentioned above.  The Deltas use a first order crossover which equals sonic purity to me.  They are not that fussy in regards to room placement which translates into real world useability.  They are worth a look.aa

Have you heard the Sason's?  If so, where?  Thanks

Nice looking speaker and from all the reviews it sounds like an awesome deal for $8500. MAybe someone has them in the NY area???
Mike
If you make it to Chicago some time, Robert's place is close, just a few miles from Bob at SP.  Some amazing speakers in the cornfields here :)

Ted_b has both the SP Tech speakers and Sason's..both from the same small burb in those cornfields.

I have not heard the SP Techs, so can't comment on them.

Maybe Ted can comment on both of those speakers.

I heard the previous incarnation, amazing bass. Too much bass on the OB1, I dont think he had it set up right, no room treatments I could see and this was a dealer. The rest of the spectrum was ok, though Im sure its improved with the new line. I also heard a larger version from there pro series Holy Jesus! Great for home theater, though would never fit in my space.

I'm thinking: What exactly is it that you feel is missing, or must change
with the sound of your system?

Or is this just a case of upgrade-itis ?
Coz... replacing a pair of Merlins... is not easy to do!!!
A BAM would improve them. But create more bass issues in the making.

One could get a Behringer unit and use it's dsp and room correction facilities to really work
wonders... you place it between the drive and the dac and rock on!!!
A skilled dsp-artist... (I guess you would be that then - pushing the buttons and all..) can really change the sonics of a system with
this type of unit. That is a viable option here, I should think!
You could add them Holograph  tri-forks or whatever, behind the speakers.
I know that you got something called Svano miljoteknik helmholz resonators - bass absorbers in the US now
those are superb at notching out bass problems, it all comes down to ... I feel - I might be off here by a mile but I'd rather just say it:
You know the Merlin's - Make them work!  :|  Waddabout' it?

Check out Gallo Reference 3.1 and pocket 10G.
Marty DeWolf praised them in this issue of BFS.

If I may suggest a pair or two.

Vandersteen 5A - shouldn't  be all that difficult to overcome some problems associated with the room's acoustic properties and optimal speakers placement.

and

Classic Audio Reproductions (horns) - easy to drive . great all around performer. However , my experience is limited to the brief audition during T.H.E Show . I only wished that I could spend more time with them and/or audition them home in my room and with familiar gear.

The rest of the budget - room treatments and records

Cheers
Mariusz

I would say Vandersteen 5A without a doubt a bargain at $13K.

i have never heard these, but i owned their smaller brothers, & in their own right, they'd sound great in your room.  but, if you are trying to unload s'more money, these would get you half way to your budget limit!   :green:
