Damn...went down to Tower today(Sat)...and all the good stuff is gone, the jazz section was empty...scored some Steve Roach and some World music @60% off...rap cd were 1.99$...tomorrow I will try the uptown store...was kinda weird seeing Tower like that, half empty(of stock not people)...kinda like watching a carcass being picked to the bones.

Interesting short article on some of the inside story of Tower Records by Wes Phillips in the current (Dec 8th) Stereophile eNewsletter:

Ok Levi, hand 'em over... :)
As I thought, the uptown store had some good stuff left, spent over 2hours thumbing through the cds downstairs in the jazz section...when the sale drops to 75% (maybe later this week?) I will go back to see whats left in the other depts., rock/pop, and classical. All the good vinyl are gone...
Looks like I will have to wait until next year to upgrade my preamp.

I hope most of you subscribe to Sterophile's newsletter.  There was a very touching piece by Wes Phillips on what Tower Records meant to him.

Hey!

I went to the one uptown near the Lincoln Center today. I was there for about an hour. Look like most of the good stuffs are gone :( And you are right it was very sad going in there.... :?

But I did managed to get 9 CDs!

Two of which I considered a good score...

1. The Cardigans "Emmerdale" this is their first album.

2. Natalie Imbruglia "Counting Down The Days" Remember her? I like her music and her latest album doesn't seem to be released here in the US. Only import are available. So, this one is a bit expensive at $11.60...  still cheaper than from the Amazon.... well is a UK import

Then the rest are those pop that I've have heard from the past but never got around to buy it. And I also got some of various Electronicas

Hmmm... I think I will go to see the one downtown tomorrow. Now that one would make very sad because I used to go there very often back than when I was in High School and early college year :(

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Yes still at 60% off.....Rap is down to $1.50 a cd (and still alot of it).....DVD still 50% off.

There were some items of interest...cd's.....but I'll wait, don't know the artists. See how low they go....so far, purchased about 90 cd's..... :D

Same here, left a lot of "maybes" that I can consider if the price drops again. I don't think I have any "rap" cds, last thing I need is somebody shouting at me thru my stereo. I have some acid jazz with hip hop elements which is cool.
I think I am at half your tally. But I did pick up about 70 Cd's + 7LPs at the wfmu record fair in early November. Those Cd's were just a dollar each...so got lots of music for the winter.
