Same here, the world section evaporated, still saw a few 6degrees and did pick some up. I had second thoughts on some and left them, my basket had about 90 cds today...came out with about 76, my biggest haul ever...so that may account for the massive saving I added up.
I am giving music as gift this Xmas.

Yeah...slicker shock for sure...
 Quite a few were imports and marked in the $20+ range.
It was kind of amusing to see people in the aisle looking very confused, by the cd of unfamiliar artists...wanting to partake in the bargains but lost as to whats to buy.

Came across this......on Coolfer website....

"Several rock legends -- Grateful Dead Producgtions, Carlos Santana, members of Led Zeppelin and The Doors -- have sued online music memoribilia retailer Wolfgang's Vault. Wolfgang's Vault operator William Sagan purchased an archive of live recordings from the late Bill Graham. The plaintiffs allege the site streams live performances to generate sales of other items. Said Bob Weird in a statement, "We have never given permission for our images and material to be used in this way. What Sagan is doing is stealing. He is stealing what is most important to us -- our work, our images and our music -- and is profiting from the good will of our fans."

Recently, Norton LLC, the owner of Wolfgang's Vault, obtained the Tower.com domain as well as the retailer's 33rd Street Records and Pulse magazine."

I wonder why ?

Hey!

I went to the Tower on 4th Street this evening for the last time. The place still have music on but those CDs racks are shrinking. I was eyeing 2 import CDs last time I was there... last Thursday I think. But I didn't buy them. Well, guess what? Those 2 albums are gone :( Oh! well. :duh:

I did picked up some CDs from 6 degree record.... you know those chilled/electronica thing of which are pretty good not bad at all. :D

It was kinda sad for me. I told the cashire that I used to come here often back than in my school years and this will be the last time I'm coming here. And it won't be long til this place turn in to Chase or Starbuck. He was pretty cool about it and we both laugh.

Well, so long Tower Record!

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Tower is now officially His-Story. Last Day was Today.
Made my final rounds of the aisle, they were dismantling the speaker system and blowing out all CD's for $1.50 or less.  Picked up a few (several-many) stragglers that either escaped my earlier browsing or those that I figured may still be around on the Last Day. Really was just the scraps left.
Adieu TR...RIP

Let's just say they will do such a thing.  Do we expect to see you in the back by the dumpster? :green:  You then call me and I will bring my truck.

OK, the last few days have been a bit of a whirlwind ... just over 200 new cds, as I visited the Village Store on Tuesday and Lincoln Center yesterday.  For today's finale, as we began a year-end holiday, my wife and I hit both stores - she bought nine DVDs and I purchased 107 cds - between the two of us, we spent $161.78 ... our savings for just today's visit were $1651.63.  I had the fever ... and there was no cowbell to be found!!

The B&K preamp from the jazz dept in the Village sold as I was looking at it ... an OK deal at $50 for what I think was a B&K CS-117.  There were a number of CD changers still there ... stacked in one of the browsers, including a Pioneer Elite w/ Legato link.  Too many cds in my arms to get a closer look at what was there.

It was interesting to see yet how much stock was at the Village at 1:00 and how threadbare the Lincoln Center store was at 2:30.  I did get lucky as they put out a large new batch of their "breached" play copies just as I wandered past that browser.

As they were pulling down the aisle speakers for a customer, a couple aisles over was a TV reporter from ABC doing an obligatory "Oh how the music business is changing" piece ... even down to the "my Mom and Dad told me that there used to be music on something called vinyl" ... yeeesh!

I have to admit, although I will miss the glory days at Tower, the several long week feeding frenzy was enjoyable and allowed me to do even more experimentation than normal.

It was nice saying goodbye to some acquaintances and a friend at the stores today.  Most of the employees were eagerly anticipating the celebration party and wake.  Some have secured other jobs ... most outside of the retail business.  Many others were looking forward toward a vacation.
