Say,
Thanks for the kind words. I was a bit naive I guess. Rules are rules however and cannot fault the moderater. They were doing their job.

The problem of course being that posts on this type of board are assumed to be impartial and free of bias. This is not so much a board policy but a basic assumption that must be made if the information presented is to be deemed valid. Once someone declares an affiliation with a manufacturer he is presenting his bias up front and forevermore. I will post soon about my very positive experience with Promitheus and the TVC.

Hi! :)

Will hopefully get my TVC within a week aa. I'm then going away a week or two on holidays and am planning to leave the TVC breaking-in while I'm away. But I'm wondering about a thing or two (or three) as to how to do it ... Maybe someone in this thread can help me out?

1) What volume level should I have if I leave the TVC playing while I'm away (full? half? quarter?)?
2) How far does the signal need to go for the TVC to break in, i.e. must I leave the power amp turned on?
3) If I need to keep the power amp running, can I have its volume knob set to 0  (= no sound, for the neighbours ...)

Hello Jolojl. Once your tvc arrives give it a good workout. Two or three clicks from maximum will do the trick. You won't need an amp. Just press repeat on your cd player. The voltage will do the rest to break in the tvc transformers. It will take alot of time though. We kind of go by the 400 hour rule around here.

Take care.

Hi, Just wanted to add to the good advice Say gave you, I would keep your TVC connected to your power amp so it sees a resistive load, the amp does not have to be switched on though. I understand the TVC won't run in properly unless it's under load, that is what I have been told anyway :D if it doesn't apply then please don't shoot me shoot the guy who told me instead

I hope you enjoy it I've had mine for a few months now and it's fantastic it even gives my DIY Music First TVC a run for it's money for a lot less mula aa

Have a nice vacation

Run in as suggested. Turn volume control to full gain and back off 2 clicks. Run in for 400 Hrs for total breakin cycle. Use your CDP over tuner unless your tuner has full frequency output meaning 20HZ to @000HZ. If not use CDP on repeat. Must be connected to Amp[ turned off]
    Hope this helps

I'd really like to try a TVC in my system. Does anyone in or around austin have one they'd be willing to bring by for an audition?

I have a (rag tag) balanced/single ended version that I'm not using .It does have the V3 trannies. I think the dual mono is a bit better though. Never the less, it will give you some idea of what the Promitheus dual mono sounds like. It is still in the box from the last curious soul I sent it too. Cover GROUND shipping from Georgia to you and you can listen too it till your heart is content! :D

Its Black Hole Pad which I suggested to damp the vibrating trannies. It works wonders to improve the performance of all transformers. Good luck.

Hello all. A summary: I rec'd my first TVC, standard edition in Five, yes 5, days. Replaced a very well made 36 step dual mono stepped attenuator w hand matched resistors and star grounding that I had used for 15 years. The improvement was obvious. Much smoother, greater depth, sweeter. rather like replacing a good ceramic plate RCA 211 with mother's best Western Electric metal plate. Smile and relax into the music. After 20 or so hours of break in (400hrs, you guys are kidding right?) disaster. A loud hum in the right channel. After switching and reswitching tubes to try to isolate the problem I tried inputting a signal and..aaargh... full output to that channel. No attenuation. Scary loud. Luckily my Quads were retired and there was no damage to the Dynaudios. The unbreakable TVC was broken.I got to Nick and he offered to send a replacement. I accepted but upgraded to a dual mono single box ref3 that was available. While waiting for my replacement TVC I returned the attenuator to the system. The sound that had brought me so much pleasure for so many years was now unlistenable. Once you hear a distortion it is impossible to tune it out. I waited. Turn around was again again five days. For those concerned about delay I had received two consecutive orders in 10 days! The ref3 is marvelous. Both units sound/sounded so organic and musical that I cannot imagine anyone not being delighted with either, regardless the level of his system. Props to Nicholas and the crew (?) at Promitheus. I will try later to discuss the minute differences between the two units. I will continue to burn the new one in past the current 120 hrs although I am not a true believer. Gotta go for now. I can hear Holly Cole in my listening room again. Damn! I  told her to stop stalking me.....Gerry

I would go with ebony wood which is put on top of trannies. This would help cancelling the vibration also. :thumb:

Hey Gerry did you ever determine what specifically broke in your TVC?

This is really a great thread! :)

Say, audio-heaven and rollo, thanks a lot for the advice! Good to know I just need to let the CDP run, wouldn't like to leave the amp on for two weeks ... Very curious to know what the TVC sounds like ... Soon joining the club  :D.

Have a nice summer!
