Interested in hearing a Zu monitor speaker?

Doug and audiojerry,

How do you think the Proacs would sound without a sub in a nice bedroom system? Interested in opinions on the ref8, ref8sig and 1sc.

Also, has anyone auditioned the D15?

I don't know what your requirements are for bass, but I have the ref8 in our 17x25 living room. Away from the wall more than 1', and there is a significant drop off in bass. Against the wall, the bass is very impressive. It won't give you any subterranian stuff, but for most music I do not feel like the bass is lacking. I think they would be ideal in a bedroom. The 1SC's will have a similar sonic signature, but will play louder and have more bass without needing reinforcement from the wall.

well, i'm presently using my reference 8-signatures in a 26x38x8.5 room, but they're crossed over to a pair of vmps larger subs, so no bass issues here...

in my relative's room - ~14x22x11h, there was surprisingly good bass from the 8-sigs, even w/a modest 25w of manley triode toob power. even w/the velodyne sub turned off... quite similar to the 1sc's. the speakers were ~2' off the back (short) wall... only problem w/'em in a bedroom system is that they may end up in the main rig...

never heard the d15's, but most diehard proac fans seem to prefer the older 1.5, which seemed to be woiced for a more neutral presentation, while the d15's try for a fuller bass... again, this is *not* from any experience *i* have with 'em - i've only heard the 1.5's... now, the d2.5's have the same type tweeter as my ref 8-sigs - i'd certainly like to hear *that* speaker, as i really do like it better than the older style tweet used in the 1sc/1.5/2.5...

ok, here's the response i got from zu, re: their monitor being sent out for demo:

Hi Doug,

The monitors are still in L.A. I wanted to give the first guy plenty
of time to break in and he had two other guys signed up with him so I
thought he would pass them along since he added them to his list but
they didn't ever move. Really it is my fault for not following up with
him.

The L.A. guys are just waiting to get the B3 cables to hear the
difference. They should be finished with their audition by Friday of
next week and I'll make sure they land to you next.

Sorry for the long wait and thanks for your patience.

Doug, what ever happened to Shokunin? He was suppose to have these monitors,,, he was suppose to be breaking them in for an extended length of time,,, he was suppose to keep us posted. What happened here,,, any thoughts Doug?

actually the speakers aren't at my place...he forgot a remote control at my place when he brought the Zu monitors over last time and that's the last time i've seen him...

Hopefully the Zu monitors will be fully broke in for you.

And better yet, maybe we can FINALLY get some insight on these speakers. Looks like Shokunin ain't got nuthing to say about nuthing. So much for "I'll keep ya posted".
