Oh, sure. Thousands of dollars in extra profit every month may *sound* all well and good, and sure it could pay for that new Mark Levinson you've been secretly coveting, and there's no doubt that a fast new car and the new indoor swimming pool in your living room would enable you to find solace at the end of a thankless day of brushing wood chips and bits of wire out of your hair. Sure, there's all that.

But there is a force greater than these things, a force for good that I know would speak to you and set you back on the right path, and that force is... just the mere thought of all the other speaker manufacturers looking over your new pricing scheme, snickering and telling you "We knew you'd yield someday. We knew we'd assimilate you. And now, take the next logical step, Brian... cheap Asian knockoff woofers... and shiny metal cones... so many pennies saved... we all do it in the end... you'll be reviewed in six moons and stereophile... no more striving, no more pressure, just happy happy conformity..."

Hi Joshk,

I know what linear phase is (I have a master's in electrical engineering in signal processing/communications), I just don't know what minimum phase is.  That page refers to this term twice but does not define what the term means.  I assume that it means that the phase change through the system would be minimal.  But I don't see why that would matter -- as long as the phase change is linear, who cares what the phase change is?  Heck, I have CDs with correct phase and reverse phase songs and cannot tell the difference between the two.  But ETF allows you to show minimum phase.  Perhaps I'll start a different thread for this.

Oops -- that site might be ok.  I searched for "minimum phase", which they use twice and neither is important.  However, they also use "minimum-phase" and that might be relevant. I'm printing this page out and will review.

Well, everybody's speculations are right on.  Forget the $300 price, it's going to be "what the traffic will bear".

Siegfried will be proud of me.

This can go both ways.  Listen, everyone.  DO NOT order the modification package from Big B.  If NO ONE orders it, he is bound to reduce the price to reflect the "traffic flow."

So now we're down to two weeks before we know about the amazing "AJ" mod... right?

A man walks into a bar with a paper bag. He sits down and places the bag on the counter.  The bartender walks up and asks what's in the bag.  The man reaches into the bag and pulls out a little man, about one foot high and sets him on the counter. He reaches back into the bag and pulls out a small piano, setting it on the counter as well.  He reaches into the bag once again and pulls out a tiny piano bench, which he places in front of the piano.  The little man sits down at the piano and starts playing a beautiful piece by Mozart!
"Where on earth did you get that?" says the bartender.  The man responds by reaching into the paper bag.  This time he pulls out a magic lamp.  He hands it to the bartender and says, "Here. Rub it."
So the bartender rubs the lamp, and suddenly there's a gust of smoke and a genie is standing before him.  "I will grant you one wish. Just one wish- each person is only allowed one!"
The bartender gets real excited. Without hesitating he says, "I want a million bucks!"
A few moments later, a duck walks into the bar.  It is soon followed by another duck, then another.  Pretty soon, the entire bar is filled with ducks and they keep coming!
The bartender turns to the man and says, "Y'know, I think your genie's a little deaf. I asked for a million bucks, not a million ducks."
"Tell me about it!!" says the man, "do you really think I asked for a 12-inch pianist?"

Heyy John,

Thanks and glad to be back...fired up the RM40's...they are now sharing the room with a grand piano, not the best listening situation, but doable.  and they still sound fantastic..... but I feel a little behind the 8 ball with so many of these tweaks that are out there now...what would you suggest as the better one to start with? I am still amazed at how real these RM40's sound!

Looking forward to the B invention!

Cords are doing well, thanks!

I think your choices would be (in order of suggestion)

1) Vitrification of the passive radiator (because its easy and inexpensive)
2) Midwoofer upgrade
3) SR-71 (DIY is probably Sonic Barrier from Parts Express)
4) Lamb's wool behind the Neopanels

5) The "NEXT" upgrade TBA
