The Best of the Best in AudioCircle

Over the years there have been many interesting and informative threads but some have been more influential shaping my decisions on how I listen and what I buy; these are the best of the best threads, the ones that informed, entertained, and guided me in my audio journey.

tubesforever thread on modding the Hagerman Cornet2 - these mods elevate Jim's phono pre-amp to world class status.

The $2000 Challenge - maybe the most influential thread I have read. This thread introduced me to Salk Speakers. The speaker search individually chronicled by funkmonkey and Nuance convinced me to get off my butt and go to the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest.

The Felix Project - Thanks Gary and Occam for sharing your design for an affordable power filter.

EVS Ground Enhancers - A lot of fun in a small package.

Nice. Great idea for a thread.
What about that huge thread that spanned years, the "Darkstar" something or other about open baffle.
I would think that's worthy of a mention.

The thread Bob references is the Gravity Well of a Darkstar, started by Dmason (not heard from in years) in 2005.  I entered that thread as the 3rd poster, and it ultimately took me on a very long and fun journey building OB speakers, and experimenting with all manner of audio fun.  It is also the reason I ultimately became a mod here, as that particular obsession (OB speakers) was a ton of affordable fun.  That thread really brought me closer to this community, and although I currently use box 2 ways (the heresy!), I still enjoy reading about OB's and may again play with them in the future.

I would also herald the modifications done to the Logitech devices by the now defunct Bolder Cables (thanks Wayne!) as another tremendous source of musical joy for many years.  There were tons of threads (I wrote at least 2 reviews of the different mods I had on 2 different units) over the years.  I still use LMS as my server, and the app on our iDevices to control my FLAC collection.

Another for me was the TheChairGuy posting about the JVC hybrid digital amps (RX-ES1 and RX-F10) as it led to me buying an ES1 that my best friend is still using in his cottage.

Lastly for me was the recent thread about John after his passing.  I never met him, but I miss our PM's.

Hi Jay and all Audio Circle members.
I must say that in the past few years here at Audio Circle
of all the posts it's Abbie and Bob
that brought me the most joy, happiness and much more.
Thanks to both of you.

I was always intrigued by the posts of the late Bill Thomas.  So much so, that I bought one of his rebuilt Dynaco SCA 35's.  Bill would post pictures and detailed information every step of the way on a number vintage rebuilds he worked on.  RIP buddy.

It may be a bit self serving, since I started this thread back in 2009, but The Joke of the Day is forever popular:

Thread?  Or threat?

We at least ought to get Elizabeth, Vinyl Lady and all the other girls :dunno:  in the mix.   It can only help.    :duh:

I've only been on AC for 18 months but I'd like to nominate Wushuliu for his DIY build threads of the Pass Labs B1 preamp kit and Salas's DCB1 Preamp kit. Wushuliu put a lot of time in these threads. It would be great to see more DIY build threads like these.

Wow...completely missed Bill's passing.   Bought many tubes from Bill and he was always a gentleman to deal with.
