Yes, to date all my SSD 5V power supplies are a cut-off SATA power connector with red and black wires twisted to the red and black wires from a USB cable, and secured with electrical tape.  Some day I will get a cleaner cable (especially would love to find a FAT/THICK USB cable to do surgery on; one that has more than a couple strands of copper per cable to work with).

I think I've found the perfect cable.  I'll share when I'm ready.  It will require soldering/assembly though.  Maybe I'll make one for you...

Here is the custom cable I made.  I started with a USB cable, cut off the end and attached a sata power molex.

Nice, so do you use some kind of punchdown tool which strips the wire too?  These would be great if the USB cable red and black wires were a bit larger than the strand of hair ones I used.

The connector is self stripping.  When you put the wires in and put on the cap it strips the wire.

If you can find a USB cable with a thick wire it would work very well with this.

One more option for the usb cable side

I would also like to thank all those who have posted, I have learned a lot already.

The FSP SMPS is a FSP brand model number 120-AAB switching power supply.  It is 19V, 6.32A feeding a 120-WI-25 wide input picoPSU.

Terry, how do you get 12V to the motherboard with this combination?  I don't see a 12V connector on the 120-WI-25 wide input picoPSU.

A 4 pin molex to 4 pin CPU power adapter.

I was looking at the DN2800MTM datasheet, it looks like it has the equivalent of a pico PS built in, and you just need to provide 12V to the jack on the rear connector.

Or are you asking about the S1200kpr motherboard?

Randy

Randy, yes he was asking about Terry's mobo.  Mine has the wide pico too (I replaced the standard one I bought at PHT with the wide one; I use an Asus P8H77-I mobo for my Zuma).  I was not as astute as Nick, so I had to wait until I later ordered the 12V 4 pin cpu connector/Molex adapter.

By the way, I tried the new FSP and both yesterday (cold, new) and today (plugged in for 24 hours) the thing spits  and sizzles with a background noise that sounds like morse code.  It's going back to Amazon.  I'm 0-for-2.   Hynes rules!

Ted, can you post a link to the molex adapter since it sounds like I will need that too. I have the S1200 on the way as well as the PPA wide pico.

Here is the one that I discovered following Terry's advice:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BX4J9O/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3VVSNFYKYYMUQ

Keep in mind that you will likely also require a Molex splitter if you don't already have one hanging around:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000067SCY/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
