I have them both, indeed. The panels, I suppose, is a shot in the dark. I was interested as soon as I saw JohnR mentioning them. And I managed to get them delivered while visiting Sydney last three weeks./Erling
I'd be interested in your opinion of how this setup sounds (once you work all the kinks out) compared to the new LX521. (I know you'll want to build one of those just as a reference to see if you've hit the mark... or not).
Comparison to the Neo10 will be very interesting!
I'm still not really sure why.?
As a practical matter? Since they're both planar dipole mids and fit in a similar space. I've heard that the Neo's are close to stats, but if stats can do better as a replacement for the Tympani IVa midrange, I think I'd choose the stats (though there are other issues like reliability to consider).
Comparing products is valid and natural.
I would actually rather read your impressions of the mini panels on their own merits, please.
Since they're both planar dipole mids
The mini-panel isn't a mid... although you could of course use it as one. I do suspect what people will find is that the design tradeoffs are not really in their favour. But as always, it will depend on the design of the speaker overall - cost, configuration, capabilities of the other drivers, desired dispersion pattern...I'm unclear on how you can replace the mids on the Tympani IV - that's the one that looks like a room divider?
I wonder how those would mate up with the DMW?
